  10. Any suggestions for waterproof #PMR #handset|s? The #Motorola #Talkabout #T92 looks decent and even swims, but ~€50 is steep when any random #Retevis does the same thing modulo being waterproof for ~€10.

Seems I really need waterproofing as this kind of holiday has us wet to the underwear somewhat regularly. Fun hikes, but still, I want the communication to work reliably.

    #retoot appreciated

The two issues of Desmond Jeffery’s Red Paper are now on @internetarchive. He devised, set and printed them in July and October of 1968 (a year when a lot was happening). Some of his earlier work is also up, and I shall be adding more.

  20. Does your smell of old feet for some reason?

Stop sniffing it like a weirdo, and install a “Phonair” telephone freshener!

This little silver puck clips on to the mouthpiece of your GPO telephone and makes it smell lemon fresh for up to 3 months!

Also available in rose and “original” flavour.

    (Not suitable for trimphones)

Uk Pat No 1157643, issued circa 1965

Also much-later #wallphones with a hook you hung the #handset up on. Not as common parlance as "hang up", but going "off-hook" meant something physical. My family still had one in 1982. Harvest Gold.

My favourite bit of phone tech that didn't belong properly in either the analog or digital universes was pushbutton phones that had a selector switch that let you configure them to emit #DTMF tones OR #pulse trains. I had one; phone company charged $2 extra per month for DTMF support.

  29. Hacking a #phone #handset recovered from a defective analogue phone, which has a useful press switch in the middle.

it is rewired so instead of muting the handset mic, the switch connects the grounds on the earpiece and mic; which can be used as a PTT switch for a VHF/UHF radio (I also made an adapter for a Baofeng UV5R which I am building into a transportable emergency comms system unit).

I repainted the PTT button using some cheap acrylic paint to give it a "1970s/80s" retro appearance..
