Any suggestions for waterproof #PMR #handset|s? The #Motorola #Talkabout #T92 looks decent and even swims, but ~€50 is steep when any random #Retevis does the same thing modulo being waterproof for ~€10.

Seems I really need waterproofing as this kind of holiday has us wet to the underwear somewhat regularly. Fun hikes, but still, I want the communication to work reliably.

My favourite bit of phone tech that didn't belong properly in either the analog or digital universes was pushbutton phones that had a selector switch that let you configure them to emit #DTMF tones OR #pulse trains. I had one; phone company charged $2 extra per month for DTMF support.

Hacking a #phone #handset recovered from a defective analogue phone, which has a useful press switch in the middle.

it is rewired so instead of muting the handset mic, the switch connects the grounds on the earpiece and mic; which can be used as a PTT switch for a VHF/UHF radio (I also made an adapter for a Baofeng UV5R which I am building into a transportable emergency comms system unit).

I repainted the PTT button using some cheap acrylic paint to give it a "1970s/80s" retro appearance..
