  1. Isn’t this BT Empress from 1983 simply gorgeous?! 😍

Pity it doesn’t work, and I’m not sure I have the time to get distracted by fixing it…

  2. Are you really really REALLY bored and want 500ish pages listing all the parts/cable/equipment that was available for a BT engineer to order through the British Telecom Stores department in 1996?

Then my friend, I have you covered:

Have at it folks, tag me if you find anything weird/amusing

  3. It's Longshot Request Friday!

    EDIT: Now sorted, thanks!

Does anyone have in their collection an example of an old British Telecom "telemessage" ?

These were greetings telegrams, dictated by phone and sent through the post.

I'm specifically looking for a readable image of the reply instructions that were printed on the reverse side of the page.

For some reason, no one seems to scan the back page when selling these online!

I've attached an example of the front:

  4. Mmmmmm refreshing!

  5. Does anyone happen to have any documentation for a British Telecom "Tester 420A" ISDN BRI tester.

Also known as the T4200 - seemingly made by Fulcrum Communications in the early 1990s

It's throwing some error codes at me, and I'd really like to know what they mean!

  6. I’ve been for a lunchtime explore, and found these sculptures that have been installed outside the new offices in Bristol.

It seems the artist is Alex Chinneck, and all bar the phonebox appear to be cast in metal. The phonebox is resin, but hollow, with transparent windows…

    I rather like them!

  7. I built a thing that will send you low quality Fun Facts about Foxes by Fax:

    youtube.com/watch?v=IRhNBLas8a4

No I'm not really sure why I did either, but once it was in my head I had to make it not be.

Illustrations are by the wonderful instagram.com/nellyperkins/

  8. This was the first installed in the area of (UK)

It was installed outside 511 Fishponds Rd in 1908, although this photo was taken in Nov 1933. The kiosk was made of wood, so was in poor shape by the time the photo was taken!

There is no longer a on that site. The shopfront is still there - although it’s now a security company, not a grocer.

The wall and railing have since been replaced, and no sign of the phonebox remains.

  9. BT Archives have added a lot more video content since the last time I checked, including this 1979 “radio rentals” film about

It’s 22mins long, and worth a look if you haven’t already seen it!
