  1. #emfcamp said yes to my DJ set! so in celebration...

OMG!! I'VE DONE UPLOADED ANOTHER MIX!!1!eleven

A little more chilled than the last couple* this ones full of lovely bouncy breakbeats and pianos and rave stabs etc - and layers cheerful upbeat vocals on top of some filthy filthy bass!

Just the thing to put some pep in your step on a boring Tuesday morning!

    mixcloud.com/lpbkdotnet/breakb

    * runs from about 140-160bpm instead of the 175 tip I was posting recently

  2. OH NO!!

I'VE GONE AND DID IT AGAIN!!

Are you still too sleepy for a Monday even thought it's nearly lunchtime?

Is your brain running slower than 175bpm?

DO YOU WANT SOME MORE BASS IN YOUR FACE?!

    Oh go on then:

    mixcloud.com/lpbkdotnet/happy-

This one leans a bit more into the happy-vocal side of things, but there's some filth in there along with the cheese.

  4. #telephony #gpo #telephones

I've had a PBX box for a while now, and I've been bugging @lpbkdotnet here on a few tips and tricks.

I have the (I don't know wha the name of it is), "master telephone" responsible for being able to programme the PBX -- this is the only way this can be done -- including working out extensions for telephones.

In the course of my (albeit very naive/young) #telephony interest, I've come to own a few GPO devices which have a no. 7 handset in them:

    britishtelephones.com/hands7.h

    These aren't common at all.

    But.

Ideally, I'd love to be in a position where there were a way to mute any GPO phone, but to have a modified external "light" or some indication that if such a phone were on "mute", that it we're obvious.

When I say "mute", GPO telephones have a mechanism to do so in the middle, if such a switch is fitted.

So, @lpbkdotnet -- I guess what I'm asking in your experience is whether:

    1. I can get "mute switches" and fit them to any GPO phone?

    2. Given the proviso that Handset No. 7 is rare, how might I connect some sort of "external light" indicator to make up for that?

I am aware of the vintage-radio.net forum, but thought I'd find the wisdom the crows here first.

    Thanks everyone! :)

  5. Isn’t this BT Empress from 1983 simply gorgeous?! 😍

Pity it doesn’t work, and I’m not sure I have the time to get distracted by fixing it…

  10. Had an afternoon out at lydneyparkestate.co.uk/woodlan with some friends

A very well kept woodland estate, loads to see and some gorgeous lichen!

  11. It's Longshot Request Friday!

    EDIT: Now sorted, thanks!

Does anyone have in their collection an example of an old British Telecom "telemessage" ?

These were greetings telegrams, dictated by phone and sent through the post.

I'm specifically looking for a readable image of the reply instructions that were printed on the reverse side of the page.

For some reason, no one seems to scan the back page when selling these online!

I've attached an example of the front:

  12. On the healing bench today, a #candlestick #telephone - it’s a UK Post Office “Tele 180” made by Plessey in 1927

It’s the oldest phone I own!

It’s a little sorry for itself, with broken wires, paint in the mechanism, a stuck hook switch and slow dial… it’s not in original condition (bits have been overcleaned, or repainted) but I’m not worried about that.

The first move has been to get it all apart for cleaning!

  13. Today in "weird stuff I forgot I owned"

The PhonePIC is a PIC programmer from the early 2000s, that allows you to program a microcontroller by sending it DTMF tones.

The board has a mic attached to it, that you hold up to you phones handset and then press keys to write programs!

I'm not sure if this makes PIC programming easier, or harder.

  14. Does anyone happen to have any documentation for a British Telecom "Tester 420A" ISDN BRI tester.

Also known as the T4200 - seemingly made by Fulcrum Communications in the early 1990s

It's throwing some error codes at me, and I'd really like to know what they mean!

  15. @ety my shenanigans are mostly on much older kit than your average home lab phone setup (#electromechanical #strowger!)

My preference for phone kit is “massive, heavy, and maintained with a spanner” 😂

I just throw a ton of tags at it (usually as many relevant ones as I can fit in the post) #TelephoneExchange #phoneExchange #pbx #vintagePhone are probably my most commonly used.

I’ve been hanging out with @CuTEL a bit over the last couple of years, so I also have some more modern #voip & #dect

  16. Ok #vintageElectronics nerds! tell me about these things…

The “MR” designation denotes some kind of diode (it stands for Metal Rectifier, a notation hangover from before silicon/germanium diodes) and they’re obviously arranged as full bridge rectifiers

They’re in a PSU made for the British Post Office in 1972

The brown stripe seems to denote the + end, but what does the other stripe mean?

  17. I’ve been for a lunchtime explore, and found these sculptures that have been installed outside the new #BT offices in Bristol.

It seems the artist is Alex Chinneck, and all bar the phonebox appear to be cast in metal. The phonebox is resin, but hollow, with transparent windows…

    I rather like them!

  23. It’s taken me 3 weeks to get around to the editing (for… “reasons”) but my #imberbus video is finally up.

    youtube.com/watch?v=6v8QM90UnO

We took a train from Bristol to Warminster, then got on an old #routemaster #bus to the abandoned village of #Imber

We spent the rest of the day pootling around Salisbury Plain on various vintage #busses - it was a lot of fun!

  24. It's taken me a month, but the final part of my "take a #strowger #telephoneExchange to #emfcamp"" video series is now live!

    youtube.com/watch?v=DikYIWUkSd

    Lessons learned:

    - I suck at logistics
    - When stuff is in 3 places, the thing I need is somewhere else
    - heavy thing is heavy, awkward, but omg fun
    - talking that much, next to a rave, drops my voice noticably
    - SD cards are garbage
    - Having fun means I forget to film stuff
    - OMG BASS!
    - It was 200% worth the effort!
