#gardening report: nice harvest after about 10 days away from the allotment. Zone 6b, collards and kale out in the open, the rest under row covers. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed

#gardening report: Yes, it is indeed colder at the allotment than at my house. Here's the frost damaged ageratum and dahlia. Big cleanup job today. Beds prepped for garlics, which are somewhere en route. Last year I planted them on 10 Nov, 2 days earlier than the year before. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed

#gardening report: The freeze and frost warnings are too numerous to ignore, so row covers on. Harvested the last of the zinnias, dahlias, ageratum, and carrots, the latter because rabbits were eating the plants. Flowers won't survive if the frost/freeze is heavy. Under covers are spinaches, lettuces, and arugulas, as well as calendula, even though it is supposedly frost hardy. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed

Looking for input, pros and cons, of garden plot design tools. Wanting features such as the basics of size, but including constraints such as a path must be here, raspberries grow here, and over there be dragons. Also want plant and succession planting recommendations based on the planting zone. All notes or suggestions gladly received with thanks. #gardening #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #Zone6b #Design #software #PlotPlan

#gardening report: Lunch in the garden is so peaceful and relaxing. However, #cycling here was an exercise in very high revs as I rode only in one gear. First to the bike shop to get derailleur adjusted, or new chain, or whatever needs to be done so the bike stops throwing the chain. At the bike shop, there's a handmade sign: Closed Tues, Sept 30....now I remember from two years ago that the last day of Sept is inventory day. OK, so high revs to the garden, water, eat, harvest, continue cleanup, eat, then hi revs home. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #CycleEverywhere #BeautifulDay

#gardening report: Just me, the birds, and the bees at the allotment today. Harvested beans, planted spinaches and arugulas, cleaned up and brought home a few tomatoes. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed

It was mostly grab 'n go at the allotment today. Lots of tomatoes in various stages of ripeness, kale, collards, green beans, jalapeรฑos, poblanos, sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias, and calendula. #gardening #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: the tomato and pepper harvest is really slowing, but the kale, collards are bountiful. And, the sunflowers, zinnias, calendula, and ageratum are blooming really well. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #flowers #share
-
#gardening report: watered because it's just so Dry around here. You can tell it's late season and cooler night temps when I start harvesting unripe tomatoes. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #share
-
#gardening report: harvested tomatoes, beets, leeks, potatoes, sunflowers, zinnias, ageratum. Definitely smaller harvest than 3 weeks ago, but plenty to #share. Planted peas. First harvest of potatoes are now cured, as are all the garlics. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: prep'd four beds for fall crops and brought home flowers. All of the yellow sunflowers are from the 15 footer that fell over. Zinnias are to be a gift to our evening yoga host. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #share
-
#gardening report: Fortunately, the groundhog has not returned, but while we were away, the big sunflower fell over. Harvested tomatoes, broccoli, kale, collards, beans, sunflowers, calendula, and potatoes (shown over in the tread on potatoes in a bag). #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #share
-
#gardening report: today I brought home this basket full of smiles.....Big Smile sunflowers, I think 18 of them, plus zinnias and ageratum. Underneath these are tomatoes: Cherokee Purples, Black Krim, Big Beef Plus, San Marzano, Sakura, and Sun Gold, plus 7 Red Norland potatoes from a bag that I thought had mostly failed. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #share

Last #gardening report today: here are Russian Red hardneck garlics. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: melted as I harvested lettuces, beets, carrots, raspberries, and ~34 Early Italian Red softneck garlics. Left the hardnecks as they need some more time to finish maturing. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #garlic #share

Didn't grow the grapes to make the raisins, but otherwise it's 100% homegrown. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed

Good afternoon and #gardening report: missed saying good morning because I was at the allotment doing the usual: weeding, watering, and harvesting. Garlics almost ready to harvest, lettuces hanging in there, carrots doing well, zinnias are flowering, potatoes doing well and may flower soon. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #GoodAfternoon

Good afternoon!
#gardening report
Whew!!!! Hot one. Worked in the garden for 1.5 hrs and jusfrazzled.Transplanted cuke, arugulas, left over calendula. Harvested lettuces, arugulas and the last of the spring peas. Hilled the potatoes, but pics of the potato in a thread about potato growing in a bag.
#gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed -
#gardening report: the usual, weeding, watering, harvesting lettuces for friends, collards, kale, arugulas for me. Potatoes could use hilling again but ran out of time. Hoping night temps stay above 60 as ready to transplant cukes and squash. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: At the allotment, I transplanted the peppers, sowed another round of carrots, and, of course, weeded. Harvested arugulas and lettuces. Now at home it's time to play a favorite game: pickup sticks.....the river birches drop a godzillion number of little, naked branches. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: decided to transplant all the allotment's tomato seedlings. Now, there's a row of heirlooms dedicated to @TheEddieShow for his love of Cherokee Purples. Also surveyed the lettuces and arugulas and we're declaring that they've reached Critical Mass: there's now enough to harvest from now til Nov (with, of course, another sowing for a fall crop). The family & friends giveaway program is now open, and you all are invited to reserve your lunch salads any day. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #share

#gardening report: awaiting soil to dry out a bit, and night temps just a little warmer, so transplanted 53 tomato seedlings into larger pots to wait for another week or two. Some are for me, other for our daughter, and others for several friends. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #share

#gardening report: Cycled to the allotment, weeded, and put down straw between the rows. Used to use salt marsh hay, but stayed local for this purchase. Back home, rolled canna lilies out of their winter spots in the garage, freshened them up, put out front, and added verbena, petunias, and pansies as fillers. Brought small plants back inside just as storm hit. Oh, and swapped out the snow blower for the mower. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #CycleEverywhere
-
#gardening report: transplanted parsley and gifted to a friend. Transplanted the last 2 trays of lettuces over at the allotment. Still have a tray of arugula and one of wild arugula on the porch. Yesterday, spent 3.5 hours doing a lot of work that should have been done late last fall, so now 7 beds are ready at the allotment. Worked to pull all the weeds and grass out of the raspberries but still about 1/4 to go. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: Finally, a sunny day!!! Made it to the allotment and transplanted 2 types of broccoli, 2 types kale, 2 types collards, 4 types lettuce, 2 types arugula, and some yellow onions. Garlics doing well, 2 small patches of spinach coming up, 1 patch beets doing well. Don't know what the peas are doing, so sowed some more, as well as more beets. Hauled water from home to water transplants. At home, transplanted some parsley into herb bed. Whew tired. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed
-
#gardening report: pulled up several tomatoes and peppers, put down 2 bags of compost and now a bed is ready for the garlics, probably planting very early next month. Harvested a few romance carrots. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #FallPrep #carrots #garlics

#gardening report: after a week of lows in the low 20s F, it's no surprise that the ground is frozen, and the kale, collards and brussels sprouts are done. So, it's the perfect time to put a blanket of leaf mulch over the garlics to slow down the freeze/thaw cycles. And, lookie lookie under the row covers: LUNCH! Yes, arugulas and spinaches still harvestable. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #garlic #RowCover

Garden report:
dug up the last of the dahlias for winter storage;
dug a pea trench for next spring;
hauled 13 bags of mulched leaves over, some to blanket the garlics once the ground freezes, the rest as mulch and weed suppressant next year;
harvested the last of the brussels sprouts, probably the last of the kale, 3 small heads of lettuce, plenty of arugula and plenty of spinach. -

Today's garden report is a testament to the usefulness of row covers. Since I last visited the crops garden, we've had 4 nights of temps down to 24ยฐF, but lookie what is hardy under the row covers: arugulas, spinaches, lettuces. Not under, but quite frost tolerant, are brussels sprouts, collards, kale. #gardening #FallGardening @gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed

Today's harvest. Brussels sprouts, kale, carrots for me and lettuces and arugulas for a friend. Thus ends the carrots for this year.#gardening #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #FallHarvest

Garden report: got row covers put up over arugulas, lettuces and spinaches. Last year these gave us salads thru the first week of Dec, and the spinaches and arugulas wintered over and we started harvesting in March. #gardening #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeed #RowCover #FallProtection
