For #ThickTrunkTuesday here's the first of two photos, taken around #dawn on a June morning last year, featuring the #Cedar of Lebanon that stands like a sentinel watching over Horse Pond #lake at fabulous #Fawsley in #Northamptonshire.

Four from fabulous #Fawsley in #Northamptonshire, my local #OnePlaceStudy, back on February 2nd.
Clockwise from top left: A beautiful, bright abundance of #Aconites in St Mary's churchyard; the South side of Fawsley Hall; #Snowdrops with a visiting #Bee; and two trees - one small, and the other far away, as Father Ted might say...

#Valentine was a forename given to several of the #Knightley men of #Fawsley in #Northamptonshire. Here we see the monument (inside Fawsley St Mary's) to Sir Valentyne Knyghtley who died in 1566, and the gravestone (in the churchyard) of Charles Valentine Knightley who died in 1932.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday, a picture taken in the avenue of (mainly) Oak trees at #Fawsley (my local #OnePlaceStudy) early on Saturday morning.

I celebrated my birthday a day early yesterday when my brother Rob came over from Wales. We started early with a #dawn visit to #Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy, where we sought out new angles for photos of this fabulous place on a #misty morning...

Sorry for not posting recently - I've been prioritising the multiple social media accounts I run for a certain Society over my own! Anyway, here is the stunning #sunrise I was lucky enough to capture on camera this morning at #Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy. Have a fab Friday all!

Fawsley this morning, in prose and pictures, part 2 of 2.
Green Woodpeckers yaffle, Nuthatches trill. In the churchyard Ox-eye Daisies bloom still, as Elder berries ripen next to crimson hips of Rose, and Hawthorn haws. Nature knows that summer's ending, blending with the fall, as two seasons merge. Now the birds and squirrels cannot resist the urge to feast on Beech mast and other autumnal fare, while that bounty lasts.

Fawsley this morning, in prose and pictures, part 1 of 2.
A Raven cronks, Jackdaws chatter, a Heron emits a screech. House Martins and Swallows reach for the sky, swooping, looping, chasing insects as they fly. A Swan sails serenely by on the lake below, where earlier a Tern, with wingbeats alternately slow and fast, flew purposefully and then turned, with a swish, a dive, a splash, into the water to catch an unsuspecting fish.

Tracing the lives of #Fawsley Hall's servants for my local #OnePlaceStudy can be tricky, but fun. One who I have just researched, a daughter of a blind street musician in Northampton, was a servant for Lady Knightley at Fawsley, and later for an MP in Staffordshire, and the Director of Gillette, in London!

Back to #Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy, after a few weeks without visiting. The birds were mostly quiet this evening, but I heard the calls of a Little Owl, and Green and Greater Spotted Woodpeckers. Towards dusk a noisy skein of Canada Geese flew over. Another brood of Swallows are well advanced in the church porch.

So I checked out the link to the RHS Digital Collections site posted by @coastalhistory and a search revealed one result for #Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy. I already knew that Lancelot 'Capability' Brown had worked on Fawsley Park, but how marvellous to see the entry in his account book for that work! https://collections.rhs.org.uk/view/4167/the-account-book-of-lancelot-brown-capability-brown-the-great-landscape-gardener-of-fenstanton-hants?q=must,any,contains,fawsley&offset=0&limit=12

#Damselfly close-up. Possibly a female blue-tailed damselfly, Ischnura elegans. Photographed June 2010 at #Fawsley so it's a #wildlife / #nature / #insect photo which also counts as a #OnePlaceStudy pic. 🙂

@SocOnePlaceStudies Currently for my #Fawsley #OnePlaceStudy, the records I'm using are the usual civil / parish / census and (as I'm working on residents recorded on the 1921 census) military records.
Plus British Newspaper Archive newspapers, which are particularly interesting as they are adding some nice colour and detail to the #FamilyHistory stories of some of Fawsley's families.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday, an #Oak tree stars in this view of a stunning #sunrise on a marvellously #misty morning just over a month ago at #Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy. Watching the sun come up and add its colour to the mist behind this tree, and then also to the mist rising off the surface of Big Waters lake, was a magical experience.
-
I'm adding #Fawsley residents from the 1921 census to my #OnePlaceStudy tree/forest. Some came from other parts of the country and one was from Ireland, but some were locals and so I find myself researching people who walked along streets with which I'm very familiar.
Pic: Fawsley, July 2021.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday here is a view across The Canal lake at #Fawsley (my local #OnePlaceStudy) with a small group of thick-trunked #Oak trees on the far shore. Fawsley St Mary's church and #FawsleyHall can also be seen.
-
@Julie_Gfamily @SocOnePlaceStudies I can't imagine who would have come up with #OnePlaceHeraldry... 😉

From to #PhotoMonday / #FotoMontag to #ThickTrunkTuesday - same tree, different day (June 23rd) and time (around dawn). I did tell you that I can rarely resist grabbing another photo of this tree and its reflection in the lake! (There *are* other trees at #Fawsley, and I *will* share photos of them 😉 .)
-
If the Cedar of Lebanon on the North side of Horse Pond comes into view when I'm having a meander with my camera at Fawsley, I can rarely resist grabbing another photo of the tree and its reflection in the lake. This was my view of the scene on June 11th.

Quite a few of my most recent visits to #Fawsley have been very early ones and I have enjoyed some amazing pre-dawn skies and superb sunrises, especially when the mornings have been misty! Lots of birdsong and calls to appreciate too, including Skylark, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Sedge Warbler, Blackbird, Wren, Raven, Jackdaw, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Coot, and Moorhen. Muntjac Deer, Brown Hares and a Fox have also put in appearances.
-
I've been away from Mastodon for far too long. Here are some edited highlights from my many visits to #Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy, so far this year...
-
#Wildlife in my #OnePlaceStudy. Fifteen species caught on camera over the last couple of years at #Fawsley in #Northamptonshire, where I study the dead and photograph the living! #Butteflies #Birds #Wildflowers #Dragonflies #Squirrel #Fungus

Hopping back in time to June 25th for this week's #ThickTrunkTuesday. Another #Oak tree (and supporting cast) beside Big Waters lake at #Fawsley, #Northamptonshire (my local #OnePlaceStudy). The sun has not long risen, and it's golden rays are illuminating the mist rising off the surface of the water. A magical moment.
-
This wonderful old Oak on the West side of Big Waters lake, photographed on Sunday, is one of my favourites. That said, I do have a lot of favourite trees at #Fawsley! #ThickTrunkTuesday #OnePlaceStudy
-
For #TombTuesday, the alabaster tomb of Sir Richard Knightley and his wife Jane, née Skenard, in St Mary's church at #Fawsley, #Northamptonshire, my local #OnePlaceStudy. Sir Richard died in 1534 and Jane in 1539. On the North side of the tomb (facing us) the couple's four daughters are depicted, on the South side their eight sons, and on the West, the Knightley arms and crest.

It's wet and miserable here today. Lifting the gloom a little with these backlit #Autumn Beech leaves at #Fawsley yesterday morning, when it was sunny and bright. I love watching the seasons change in my local #OnePlaceStudy
-
The weather has mostly been lousy of late, and my opportunities to get out during the occasional bright spells have been limited. Consoling myself by remembering the gorgeous early morning light at #Fawsley, #Northamptonshire, one of my #OnePlaceStudies, on my birthday back in September.
