I miss Web 1.0, and despair that as #DeadInternetTheory takes hold, we humans find ourselves unable to salvage much worthwhile from the #Web of old.
We’ll have to kitbash something frail and new as (drawing vague analogy from @cstross’ “Accelerando”) we languish in the boonies with discarded instantiations of Lovecraft, watching as something vast, dark, and inscrutable devours the sun to feed its endless, fecund need to vomit forth paperclips.

Man, I’m so happy I quit YouTube.
AI slop channels are becoming more common and getting unfair advantages over real creators, thus confirming the dead internet theory. Not only that, but that shit just ruins the platform altogether.
Also, not to mention that there is literally no human moderation left. Dead platform, dead internet.

Something something bad court!Yeah, corporate astrlturfing definitely isn't a huge problem that Reddit has. /s I don't understand why anyone uses Reddit, almost all subs are turfed to hell and back. It's more likely for a sub to be turfed than not at this point. It's very Dead Internet.

Digg lays off staff and pulls app from stores
“When the Digg beta launched, we immediately noticed posts from SEO spammers noting that Digg still carried meaningful Google link authority,” the blog post about the layoffs states. “Within hours, we got a taste of what we’d only heard rumors about. The internet is now populated, in meaningful part, by sophisticated AI agents and automated accounts. We knew bots were part of the landscape, but we didn’t appreciate the scale, sophistication, or speed at which they’d find us.”
The company said it banned tens of thousands of accounts, deployed internal tooling, and worked with external vendors, but it wasn’t enough. For a site that relied on user votes to rank content, an uncontrollable bot problem meant those votes couldn’t be trusted.

There was a #39c3 talk on PTP that looked interesting, but had ai slop images and the presenter said they used chatgpt to code some of their presentation (and which they blamed when that part of the demo failed). And this morning there was a potentially neat article about hosting websites on a SPARC1, which diverged into unrelated MCP sloperations, so the whole article is suspect and not worth sharing. More disappointing evidence for the #DeadInternetTheory...
