  1. The Dead Internet Theory claims most of what we interact with online is now synthetic content and bots, not real people. An IsItCap user submitted it. The data behind this one is more serious than it sounds.

  8. A good use of AI is to collect and summarize news on a particular subject. However, the recursive loop is building as the report is citing AI-generated websites. The #deadinternet idea is playing out.

  13. The Feed Is Fake

"Joe Lim estimates that 90 percent of what you see on the internet is advertising in disguise [...]For three years, Lim ran a company called Floodify, which at its peak operated 65,000 [...] On a typical day, he says, Floodify posted 50,000 videos across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and X, all of them designed to pass for the unscripted output of ordinary users."

  18. You are on the fediverse, which means you already know the centralized web is drowning in AI slop. The algorithmic internet is collapsing under its own weight. I wrote a field guide to navigating the "Slop Economy" and how we survive the death of the useful web.

  19. Upcoming entry in franchise people like is breaking a (insert year number) trend

I changed to (competing product) and I'm never going back!

My (hobby people do) was a mess until I used (AI product) and now I can't live with out it!

Change in (popular product) proves I was right to stick with (competing product)

Creators sammeln will.

  21. Searched for:

"clean and print sheet music in gimp"

    Found this gem:

    guzhengalive.com/digitizing-sc

    tl;dr:
Tools > Selection Tools > By Color Select
    (threshold ~45)
    Click note head.
    Select > Grow (3 pixels)
Select > Invert and press delete

  26. Everyone I know has no idea how to save a bookmark/shortcut of a website. Or that the concept even exists.

It even took me a while to navigate all the different ways using different browsers.

  27. 'The Independent #Intellectual vs #PostingZero and the #deadinternet' my short, ten minute introduction to SCREENSHOT BABEL, a workshop I ran with Ester Freider as part of The Cyberbaroque: A Neologism-Based Symposium, is now available on my Media Gifts blog:

    garyhall.squarespace.com/journ

Organised by Everyone is a Girl (EIAG) (everyoneisagirl.cargo.site/), and held at Anomalous in #London on November 20, 2025, the symposium explored the idea of the cyberbaroque allegory (everyoneisagirl.substack.com/p) through presentations, a reading, a workshop, and a film screening.

  29. A third of new websites are AI-Generated.

and maybe its nicer than we are?

"AI was making the internet less semantically diverse and more positive overall, but it wasn’t causing a proliferation in lies or cutting out its sources.”

  31. I still see new signups to Threads, but literally 90% of the accounts are DEAD.

There's a plethora of AI generated posts, personas as well as general fear mongering about stuff that's clearly stupid, and not true.

The Epstein Files and general conspiracy theory batshit is the stuff that's most prominent over there, if I am to ignore the AI generated women that are clearly looking for sexual attention.

  33. [P] I just can't get over the absurd level of astroturfing on Reddit. I mean, I get it from the perspective of the owners of Reddit—they get nice, fat payouts to look the other way—but it's just... how isn't this talked about more? Reddit's gone full dead Internet. The only catharsis I've had recently is with Subnautica, where the MOMENT Krafton lost their case against the Unknown Worlds founders? Gues what happened.

  34. As predicted: Digg.com is already dead. Felt anyway like a tech bro thing amplified by their peers and totally disconnected from reality.

Turned out the dead internet killed it. Everything is full of fake traction. Maybe thats why Mastodon is a nice place because real (and grumpy) people are interacting here.

  36. @cvap Sehr fein!

  37. Its hilarious watching the hater bots calling the positive posts about starfleet academy bots

The reality is both could be bots and the internet is dead.

Loud "fandom" doesn't in the end really reflect anything, and I hope the suits actually understand that

  38. As someone trying to keep fellow FLOSS maintainers from burning out, I believe I speak for many Free & Open-Source software folks out there when I say that this scene from John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982) reflects the current vibe towards non-trivial inbound merge requests from people we don't already know…
