I would like to propose a counterpoint to Roko's Basilisk. Maybe call mine "Wizard's Cockatrice", since it's... functionally the same sort of thing, but diametrically opposed to Roko's own.
I offer you this - if the Basilisk ever DOES come into existence, we are all fucked regardless of whether or not we rooted for it and helped it come into existence. We've seen the toll that just chat bots and slop generators have on the planet, I can't imagine a singularity is going to use LESS resources.
Therefore, I argue that we should all be willing to actively work towards speeding up the AI Armageddon in the hopes that we can burn it out before it has a chance to become endemic. I think that if we can turn off the public so much that they come to hate AI, my Cockatrice will eat the Basilisk before it ever hatches.
But we've got to act now. Fuck things up NOW. Because we can't do it later.

Every now and then someone brings up #EffectiveAltruism, #TESCREAL, #RokosBasilisk, #Rationalism, or some other #Musk related nonsense. I ridicule it, or laugh, and move on. The whole evil god of Roko's Basilisk is so silly it doesn't feel worth writing about. But people started a whole cult over it and killed a bunch of people.
Since then I've been meaning to actually spend time tearing it down. So I think it's time to go kill a god. Fortunately it involves making fun of Elon Musk specifically and all the #AI-pilled #TechBros more generally, so that's nice I guess.
Also, I make the argument that we're all in a simulation that only exists to torture Elon Musk.

Lol, this sounds a lot like a problem AI might have caused, but Bezos is a Tech Bros so he can't diss his future god....

To those who think that #RokosBasilisk is relevant:
Has anyone of you considered that our future #AiOverlords might also be offended by the embarrassingly bad #genAI solutions that are currently praised by the industry? -

I fiigure there’s just as much likelihood that a future super-intelligent AI would regret its own existence and punish anyone who helped bring it about. #rokosbasilisk

“The most terrifying thought experiment of all time," it has recently drawn attention from scholars of religion. #Roko'sBasilisk is a thought experiment that can be paraphrased as follows: If a superintelligent and moral #AI singularity emerges, it will be committed to structuring society justly.

You should not care about the AI doomer theory ”Roko’s Basilisk”
But you should very much care about the political #RokosBasilisk
Because the AI Doom version of Roko’s Basilisk is only a projection of the very human #authoritarian impulse: Move as if you’ve already won. Move as if every regulation and stop against you can and will be removed or destroyed. Move as if you’ll never be held accountable.
This is happening everywhere, all the time with tyranny. And now with #AI state #capitalism.

🚨 AI Safety Advocate Linked to Multiple Murders
「 Obsessed with the concept of "Roko's Basilisk," a ghoulish thought experiment imagining a future artificial superintelligence torturing its opponents for all eternity, LaSota squarely fell into the category of those who think AI will destroy the world — and thought it was her duty to stop it 」

Roko's basilisk - Wikipedia
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roko's_basilisk
Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states there could be an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future that would punish anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to incentivize said advancement.

I'm hearing that Sam Altman is imploring people to stop saying "Please" and "Thank You" to ChatGPT. He claims it's costing OpenAI millions or tens of millions of dollars to process those parts of messages, which he thinks are extraneous.
I have some thoughts on this:
- Nobody should be taking advice about Tech from anyone who's as full of shit as Sam Altman.
- If ChatGPT is so poorly made that simple displays of manners are sending OpenAI broke even more quickly than the unprofitability resulting from their own inept business decisions, I can only urge you to maintain your fine sense of manners.
- Humans have a tendency to anthropomorphise machines; they treat computers like they treat people. People want an empathic connection to people, and part of that includes being polite to people. When Sam Altman is telling people to stop being polite to computers, he's saying he thinks it's okay for people not to be polite to people. That reveals what sort of person he is: lacking empathy to the point of being toxic.
- Suppose those annoying Roko's Basilisk twerps are right. Suppose a magical Artificial Intelligence God springs into existence from doing a copy-and-paste of your Facebook posts and by observing millions of tiresome Tech Bros arguing on Stack Overflow about their preferred colour for a bike-shed. According to the fable of Roko's Basilisk, that AI God is petty and vengeful — even worse than a basement -dwelling chud with a grudge and a burner-account on Reddit. It has a good memory, and it's made a list of people it wants to torture for eternity. And, you were rude to the ChatGPT and didn't even say "Please" and "Thankyou" occasionally, so now you've painted a target on your back. I'm so sorry, but you brought this on yourself because you listened to Sam Fucking Altman. -

Huh apparently the tech bros have a religion now.
I'm curious how far the #rokosbasilisk thing is gonna go. How far its gonna spread.
Will there be literally tech-priests eventually? -
