The DVLA’s privacy notice doesn’t list the data types they process in any real detail. The relevant item for these purposes is merely “visual images”.
There is room for improvement here - I want to see a full list of detailed data types and the purposes for which each is processed.

Facial recognition using the DVLA database seems like an invasive step with unproven benefits.
The DVlA and the Passport office both capture images for renewals using a smartphone, which is quick and convenient for everyone.
But I *think* (it’s been a while since I used the system) they require a video to prove you’re alive and the person to whom the records apply. That also helps #FacialRecognition systems (if they keep the files).

Encouraging the tech giants to come to Dublin cannot extend to providing them a safe harbour from which they can abuse EU laws.
Irish politicians cannot damn Hungary for dismissing the Rule of Law and then ignore Ireland doing exactly the same thing.
