  1. Just wanted to reserve a table at a restraunt. Their online reservation demanded my full adress as mandatory fields. What the heck? If I just call the place, all I need to give is my name and they probably record my phone number. I now live at Dataminimisation Avenue 42, in 1337 Noneofyourbusiness.

  2. Ah, algorithmic transparency, what I told the European Parliament was the next step they should take after GDPR. Better six years late than never. Hey, maybe in another decade they’ll even consider implementing a General Data Minimisation Regulation (GDMR).

  3. I'm at an #EU :europe: #DataSpaces conference, where I'll be speaking about the #EHDS.

The conference is co-organised by the Spanish #DPA but they seem to spend more time lamenting about #innovation, #datamarkets and #synergies than they do about #privacybydesign, #dataminimisation and #consent. :dumpster_fire: #GDPR

  4. Argh. Webinar registration forms that have street address as a mandatory field. Stop it already!

  5. Casual overcollection of personal information

"We'd like to know your age". Ok, so ask for my age then. You don't need my date of birth!

At least it's not a mandatory field

  6. @carmeartigas I’m glad to see the move beyond just data protection to the second step I outlined in my talk to the European Parliament three years ago.

Here’s hoping we can move to step 3 also (data minimisation).

  7. “Data protection” is a joke and you’re the punchline.

“Data protection” assumes that data is collected to begin with and that that’s just “how things are.” It makes no attempt to change that.

What you’re looking for is data minimisation.
