  1. Identifying the mysterious and legendary ground shark of the Timor Sea

Legends tell of a ferocious man-eating "ground shark" that terrorises divers in the Timor Sea - but behind the myths is a very real creature.

  2. New book by Brian Regal, historian. I'm going to bet it's a must-have. I've ordered it.

Offering a groundbreaking examination of the long and complex history of #cryptozoology Regal situates it within broader debates about biology, evolution, and the limits of scientific knowledge. A fascinating read for students and scholars of cryptozoology, the history of biology and zoology, and science, technology, and society studies.

  3. Fun fact: Found an old photo of a science fair project I did on the Loch Ness Monster in 5th Grade.

Look how extra I was about all this. I really did (and do) love reading about monsters.

  4. I'm trying to be a Crypto Bro.

Not in a "I'm buying Ethereum because a guy on YouTube with a bad haircut said it" way.

More in a "If I see Bigfoot or the Mothman cutting about the place - I will shoot my shot" way.

  7. It just hit me today that #mermaids are not mythical creatures, they are #folklore . Sirens were have bird, not half fish. It wasn't until Christianity came around that they got their fish parts and became part of early #cryptozoology , like unicorns.
  8. 👣🔬 Is the search for #Bigfoot a rejection of #science – or a unique form of it?

Two sociologists spent years interviewing 150 "Bigfooters" to find out. They discovered a community using high-tech #drones, thermal cameras, and meticulous fieldcraft to build a body of knowledge.

Reviews of Meldrum and Daegling by an anthropologist

In 2007, Matt Cartmill of Duke University reviewed Jeff Meldrum’s Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science and David Daegling’s Bigfoot Exposed in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology (published online in 2007, in print 2008). The PDF of this review is here: Review of Daegling and Meldrum.

In addition to contrasting the differing views of both anthropologists on opposing sides of the Bigfoot argument, the review provides useful insight into the following:

    • Why Gigantopithecus is not a viable relation to Bigfoot
    • How to deal with all the eyewitness evidence
    • Why the scientific community has no interest in Bigfoot research

Even after all these years later, little has changed. Both books are essential reading for the cryptid researcher.
