“Emily!” — I fell to my knees as my hands flew to my face.

Memories flooded me: her smile through a curtain of ivy; us playing cards, a pink pyramid in the background; her sipping a red cocktail, a uniformed Nazi rabbit behind her; and her standing next to a cowled person.

In her hand, a blue gem slowly crumbled.

“Whaat see?” Weena asked, peering up at me.

Shaken by the morning's events — first the vision of a catastrophic end to an ancient city, then the divine appearance of this woman — I trembled speechless. Finally, I said, “Ah… Emily… It’s Emily… A woman I used to know.” Then, looking back at Emily, I asked, “Were you my girlfriend? My wife?”

Her brow knitted. “What? Your wife? Are you okay?”

“I don’t remember anything past yesterday. Your memory haunts me, though.”

Weena tugged on my clothes. “Henny? Whaat Henny see?”

I pointed to where Emily stood. “Weena no see?”

She shook her head. “No, see,” she said, taking my hand.

“Who is this woman, Bijou?” There was an edge to Emily’s voice, though I had no idea why she might be upset.

“This is Weena. She has been helping me. I would have been #alone here without her.”

“Emeelee Soone…?” She waved her hands, looking for a word.

“No, not Soone. Emily,” I answered. I wasn’t sure what Weena was asking, but it sounded like she thought Emily was a goddess. Was she divine? That might explain why my companion couldn’t see her.

“Gooo Eemaoold,” Weena said, tugging on my hand.

When I didn’t rise, she tugged harder and pointed toward the growing light in the sky. “Goo. Saair bad. Henny goo.”

“We’re headed to Eemaoold,” I explained to Emily. “You can tell me what’s going on as we walk.”

Weena pulled again, practically dragging me to the barrier at the door. Emily raised her eyebrows and followed, grabbing my other hand.
