I was just watching clouds of moths around this bottlebrush tree, when a pair of musk lorikeets rocketed into it. Sadly, I didn't capture the birds on video, and they disappeared into the back of the tree quickly. But it shook up the moths a lot!

Newcastle line trains out due to freight train broken down. Buses running between Fassifern and Newcastle instead. We're getting to Glendale to catch a 13 from there instead.

The musk lorikeets around here usually fly high and stick to the high gum blossoms, so I rarely get to see them properly. Lately though, they've been getting into the red bottlebrush which gives me a fighting chance.

We sat down at the lake today with chips and a couple of beers, before facing up to the stupor market. Quite a few yacht races on the go. Here's a small group of one race returning to the Toronto yacht club.

I've been seeing Willy Wagtails around the Stoney Creek bridge near Toronto NSW, and today I noticed there's a wee nest crafted onto a fallen tree under the water board pipes. After I took a photo, both off them showed up and one sat on the nest. Left it as soon as I got close though.

Spring is bouncing well. Yesterday, shorts and 36°C. Today I'm in jeans and the day is struggling towards its 20°C forecast max. Back to hot by the weekend.

I forgot to post this photo from after last Sunday's picnic. Walking back to the bus stop, one of the yachts moored in Kooroora Bay had been designated as The Roost for these little black shags. There's at least two dozen by my count.

Spring is certainly here. A bit cloudy this morning, but this gymea lily doesn't mind. Lovely and warm, definitely shorts weather.

Late in our picnic this pair of wood ducks ambled past our table, with Mrs grazing on the grass while Mr watched for threats. He's looking the other way, so I guess we were assessed as non-threatening.

On my return from the shop, two cockatoos are now fighting over the biscuit packet from an electrical transmission wire.

I walked around the corner to get some wine, and found these cockatoos and corellas fighting over a packet of biscuits somebody has dropped.

It rained a little earlier, and the grass is wet and water is running in the drains. Just how the parrots like it.

It's still a little breezy out there, and when I wandered around to the shops for eggs and wine, this little corella was having fun spinning on the end of a casuarina branch. There's other corellas and a cockatoo in there as well.

Yesterday afternoon we wandered in to town to buy some groceries, but decided to sit by the lake for a tipple and snack first. So very relaxing, and so quiet yesterday! Best way to prep for hitting the supermarket.
While we were there, this swan motored on past on an adventure. It was really moving, and unlike most swans here, it was totally unperturbed by the fishers on the wharf as it passed.

NBN outage this morning so I took a walk to visit my feathered friends and buy groceries. This fine Australian darter was airing its laundry, sitting on the old railway bridge in the warm sun.

Painfully glorious at Lake Macquarie this morning. And with a steak and kidney pie for breakfast and a feathered breakfast companion.

After shopping, we sat down at the lake for a salad lunch – i.e. a packet of chips and a beer each. DW had a gluten free Hahn lager, I had a longneck of Coopers stout.
We watched a procession of little pied shags and a little black shag working over the pool in the lake at Toronto. They kept popping up for a breath (and maybe a swallow). The shark fence around the pool is no challenge for these birds, they seem to just swim through the holes.

• 2 high flying white-bellied sea eagles
• a flock of low flying toddlers (corellas)
• tiny swallows sitting on huge piers
• a bloke hooning on a hydrofoil board
