  2. "And it's one, two, three,
    What are we fighting for?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam;
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
Yeah, come on Wall Street, don't be slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of its trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.
    And it's one, two, three,
    What are we fighting for?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam.
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die."

  5. Country Joe McDonald was not only key to my musical discovery in my late teens, but his music has become even more important to me as I have become a musician myself in my later years. I cover quite a few of his songs, including the beautiful "Janis." Between his death and John Hammond Jr.'s, I've lost a couple of personal musical icons this week.

  8. Goodbye #CountryJoe 😢
Gratitude for your voice that called out loud and clear that unnecessary bloody dirty war of choice that decimated a whole generation of good people on both sides of the Pacific.
We desperately need many someones like you now. Rest in peace.

  9. Country Joe McDonald, the iconic lead singer of Country Joe and the Fish and a defining voice of 1960s counterculture, died on March 7, 2026, at age 84 in Berkeley, California. Joe was a Navy veteran who remained a vocal and adamant anti war activist and advocate for veterans.

Inspired by Woody Guthrie and the folk and protest music of the era, McDonald formed Country Joe and the Fish alongside Barry "The Fish" Melton. Known for his anti-Vietnam War anthem "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag" at Woodstock, he passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was a good man, he did good things, he will be missed on this plane, and welcomed back into the energy in the next one. So long Joe, and thanks for all the Fish.

  10. I really really need to listen to music now, the gentle music of Country Joe McDonald back back from the 60’s and 70’s. It’s the same old shit. Fantasy on Paris Sessions
