On September 4th dock workers in #Rotterdam, #Amsterdam and #Zeeland will lay down the work throughout the day. The following Wednesday, September 9th, the whole country will be shut down by a public transport and railway strike. The strikes are a response to the government plans to impose cuts on unemployment benefits (WW), disability benefits (WIA) and to raise the retirement age.
Strikes going on the offensive
These #strike actions are more conflictive than before in a number of ways. Previously actions only took place in a part of the day: public transport stopped only in the morning rush hours and the ports only during the night shift. Now the dock #workers won’t work all day and the public transport and rail strike lasts a full 24 hours. The entire rail sector and transportation services will stop at the same time. My two cents on the #Iran "Deal".
I live in the #US and turned 18 while the #War in #Vietnam was still a thing. I went thru the last two military #Draft calls under #Nixon. I was lucky!
The only good thing about that war was that it ended! It was an obvious #mistake and the effort to save face and keep the #warmongers happy only delayed the inevitable.
The good news is both sides progressed and we are now on friendly terms with our former "enemy". That is a blessing.🙏
Our current war with #Iran is even more ill-advised, unnecessary, & incompetent. The only possible good outcome is that it END as quickly as possible. (It is far from over IMO.)
We elected #Trump, he started this war of choice, and now the entire US needs to eat humble pie and move on. Let him claim some sort of "art of the deal" victory. The only thing that matters is stopping the death and destruction!💀
The other historical parallel is how we got into Vietnam in the first place. We willingly took over from the colonial French based on fear of #Communism and falling dominoes. The current conflict was basically instigated by, or on behalf of, #Israel. Trump was lead by the nose down a garden path with promises of a quick fix in the #MiddleEast. There can be no such thing.
