January 23, 1970 - Called as witnesses, folksingers Judy Collins, Country Joe McDonald, Arlo Guthrie, Phil Ochs, and Pete Seeger were denied permission to sing as part of their testimony for the defense at the trial of "The Chicago Seven."

Seven leaders of demonstrations at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago were being tried for conspiring to incite a riot as they protested the Vietnam war.

Not sure which longhair first had the bright idea to divert Dave Dudley's trucker-anthem "Six Days on the Road" into the hippie pantheon. Was is #TajMahal? Perhaps the #FlyingBurritoBrothers? Whoever it was, thank em for doing so. It remains a great, celebratory working-class song - here's hoping someone will one day retool the lyrics for our Uber-dependent generation. #CountryJoeMcDonald waxed a bumpin' version too, but #TheYoungbloods take - what with all that dancing Marin County gtr work - gets my vote for the best.
