I just used a Windows PC for the first time in 20 years possibly?
Long story short, I typically manage my Kindle 4's contents with a Macbook Air from 2013 that still works wonderfully.
But! The old Air stayed behind in Paris, as I just arrived at my parents' in Italy with my Macbook Air M4. And the Kindle would not mount on it, no matter what I tried (even checking USB connections in Terminal). Last resort: I asked my parents if I could use their PC.
Dad got upset because with the first micro USB cable the computer wouldn't recognize my Kindle... so he launched #copilotai looking for help and I literally screamed "Nooooo I don't want any of that, quit quit quit immediately."
A different cable did the trick, I installed an earlier version of KOreader and it seems to be better... but the books aren't rendering yet, they're all gibberish, so I may have to install Calibre on my parents' PC and re-convert all the books.
Why going through so many hassles? Did you ever see how gorgeous Simple UI is for KOreader? A total game changer.

Microsoft wprowadza oficjalną aplikację Copilot na macOS
Microsoft oficjalnie udostępnił aplikację Copilot dla systemu macOS, po raz pierwszy oferując swoje narzędzie AI jako natywną aplikację dla użytkowników komputerów Apple.
Dostępna w Mac App Store (niestety, jeszcze nie w Polsce) od czwartku, 27 lutego aplikacja wymaga systemu macOS 14.0 lub nowszego oraz procesora Apple M1 lub nowszego, wykluczając wsparcie dla starszych modeli z układami Intel.
Copilot na macOS działa podobnie jak jego odpowiedniki od OpenAI czy Anthropic, oferując funkcje takie jak tłumaczenie, podsumowywanie tekstu, odpowiadanie na pytania, generowanie kodu czy tworzenie obrazów za pomocą modeli OpenAI (DALL-E 3), oraz własnych rozwiązań Microsoftu, jak Prometheus. Aplikacja wyróżnia się skrótem klawiszowym (Command + Spacja), który pozwala szybko uruchomić okno czatu z dowolnego miejsca w systemie, a także obsługą ciemnego motywu i przesyłania zdjęć.
Copilot+ będzie dostępny dla komputerów z procesorami AMD Ryzen AI
Choć Copilot był już dostępny na urządzeniach Apple poprzez przeglądarki oraz aplikacje mobilne na iOS i iPadOS, nowa wersja na macOS zapewnia bardziej zintegrowane doświadczenie. Microsoft podkreśla, że aplikacja jest darmowa i oferuje te same funkcje co wersja webowa, z opcjami premium dostępnymi dla subskrybentów Copilot Pro. To kolejny krok firmy w rozszerzaniu dostępności swojego asystenta AI, który zadebiutował dwa lata temu i od tego czasu trafił na różne platformy, w tym Windows i Android.
Trudno nie zauważyć w tym posunięciu próby dotarcia do szerszej grupy odbiorców, zwłaszcza w obliczu konkurencji ze strony ChatGPT. Copilot na Macu to naturalny krok w kierunku uniwersalności AI. Aplikacja jest już dostępna w wybranych regionach, takich jak USA, Wielka Brytania i Kanada. Microsoft zapowiedział, że Copilot dla macOS będzie dostępny również na innych rynkach w najbliższym czasie.

The report, released by Austrian research institute Cracked Labs, raises questions about the integration of Microsoft’s Copilot AI into its platform for worker surveillance.
“The study shows that it is not only gig work firms or software from small, shady vendors that enable extensive worker monitoring and algorithmic management,” Wolfie Christl, a public-interest technology researcher and the author of the report, told 404 Media. “Microsoft software provides employers with similar functionality.”
The Dynamics 365 Field Service software is designed to help dispatchers manage a fleet of mobile workers, which Microsoft often refers to as “resources.” The system is usually used for services like machine maintenance, repair, cleaning, or home healthcare. Because of its optimization for managers, however, the report found that the software can have negative impacts on human workers in the field."
