Congratulations to the Tawny Frogmouth! A beautiful bird and a well deserved winner.
There aren't many coins featuring the bird, one in fact - and it came out just this year - the 5c piece in the Aussie Bubs set from the Royal Australian Mint features a cartoonish representation of the bird. Pictured is the coin - courtesy https://en.numista.com/464491

Voting is open for the Australian #BirdOfTheYear. I'm taking it on a day-by-day basis, as we have too many great birds to pick only one.
Today I went with the whip-bird - these elusive yet ever-present little things can be commonly heard on forest fringes. Did you know the call is actually a two-parter? The male does the long query, and the female does the two-beat response! Love that for them.
Despit hearing them everywhere, I've only gotten to see one once - in the coastal heathland of the Royal NP.

It's the endangered Swift Parrot ! (also Bird of the Year).
In fact, it's THREE endangered Swift Parrots.
I can also confirm, when they take flight, they are indeed swift. (someone over the road spooked all the birds and these guys were gone in a flash - it wasn't me that spooked them, I was lying on the wet ground).
