A new bird! This channel-billed cuckoo was making a bit of noise, giving me plenty of time to get my camera. At first I thought the other other bird in the shot (the black one) was chasing it away, but I think it might be the cuckolded "parent", freaking out that its "baby" had fledged and left the nest.

Crazy to think this was Girri only a week ago. Now she's out there in the world learning to be an adult falcon. Even more crazy to think her dad only went through this same stage last year. He did well for a first-time dad this season.

Baby Girri fledged this morning! She did a great job, and likely got a reward of a big galah to eat afterwards, since Diamond brought it to the box very shortly after, only to find the box empty.

She's been looking keen to go for the past couple of days, jumping and flapping like mad, and spending a lot of time right on the ledge of the nest box staring out at the world, so I'm sure she's happy to be out there exploring, finally.
