  1. Day 2. Hot, hot, hot, and humid. Only picture I grabbed today was a historical marker for Lake Wakanda, Minnesota. Not kidding. hmdb.org/m.asp?m=231706 Oh, and don't touch your cellphone with hands that have been applying zinc based sunscreen. Totally messed up the functions, had to clean screen with soap, water, alcohol wipes, almost an hour to recover and reboot. #BikeTooter , #bikems #sunscreen #MNastodon #minnesota

  2. Thinking of all the riders at #BikeMS today! It was a hot one. Some people will be riding again tomorrow. Stay hydrated out there!

  3. I did it! I completed my 65-mile (100 km) bike ride AND reached my fundraising goal!

Thank you to all who contributed. You can read about the day and see lots of pictures from the 6 hours and 10 minutes I spent on my bike Saturday in today's blog post.

  4. UPDATE: Wow! I am now just $100 away from my fundraising goal! Who will be the hero? It could be you!

I am just $400 shy of my goal to raise $1500 for the National MS Society! I will be biking 65 miles this Saturday as part of Bike MS: Chesapeake Challenge and need your help to reach my goal!

If you haven't donated, what are you waiting for? These essential treatments and supports aren't going to fund themselves!

  5. It's MS Awareness Week! I am once again riding the Chesapeake Challenge in June. This ride is part of Bike MS, which raises money for multiple sclerosis research. I will be riding a metric century! My goal this year is to raise $1,000.

These funds are needed now more than ever. Can you help me?

  6. I'm riding in again this year to raise funds to end MS. I will be so grateful if my friends out there in the Fediverse would be so kind as to make a donation to help me hit (then pass) my goal of raising $4,500 this year! Go to events.nationalmssociety.org/i to donate. Thanks!

  7. I completed my bike ride with #bikeMS! I started fundraising in December, started training in January, and weathered several setbacks over the next 6 mos. So glad to have achieved this goal!

There's still time to donate if you are moved to: mssociety.donordrive.com/parti

  8. I have two other ride T-shirts that I have to sleep in because I requested a Medium, only to find out they only had men's shirts available.

It really does make me angry. I used to write it off, but with a group that preaches inclusion like #BikeMS, this should be on their radar.

  9. Why is it acceptable for an outfit like #BikeMS to only offer "men's/unisex" jerseys as the gift for reaching the $1K fundraising level? My money spends just like the men's. I should get a comfortable, attractive jersey, just like the men. "Inclusion" seems to be a flexible term.

I experienced the same thing w/ URevolution, a website dedicated to inclusion. Their free gift was a men's t-shirt. The women's was $5 more. Ridiculous.

  10. Just 10 days until I ride 120 miles in support of MS research. If you have been meaning to donate, now is a great time to do it. Follow the link.

I'll be off my bike today and tomorrow due to wildfire smoke (!!), but am looking forward to my last long training rides Saturday (60 miles) and Sunday (40 miles). I started this journey in January of 2023. Hard to believe the end is in sight!

    1. Was able to get an appointment with a therapist after several weeks of trying to find someone with an opening.

    2. Learned about a logistics meeting for #BikeMS before it was too late for me to attend. The ride is in less than two weeks!

    3. My recovery from 90 miles of biking this weekend has been better than expected. I might be able to complete this ride after all!

  12. I'm so bummed. I learned a few days ago the #BikeMS event I have been training for has only one way to get to 150 miles -- 100 on Saturday and 50 on Sunday. I have been planning for two 75-mile rides, like the other events in the area do.

I've done 100 miles before and I was in way better shape. I know I won't want to get back on for another 50 the next day. So now I'm looking at only doing 120 miles. My 7 y.o. suggested I do the final 30 back at home. Maybe. Still bummed.

    1. I met my fundraising goal for my #BikeMS ride in June. Thanks to all my friends, colleagues, and family who generously donated.

    2. My sister answered the phone when I really needed to talk. I'm feeling much better now.

  14. Question for the #BikeTooter and #BikeMS crowd, or anyone else with ebike experience: If you are riding a bike with pedal assist and you're really tired, would it ever be hard to keep up with someone on a standard road bike? Or will the pedal assist always make it so you can zip along? What if you have #MS?

This is for a bike *without* a throttle.

I might have to go test-ride an ebike, but for now I'd like to learn from the masses.

  15. I bought a new pair of bike pants last night to help with my training. The last ones I owned were hand-me-downs and finally gave out about 5 years ago. The new ones were so expensive I had to think of it as a 10-year investment. 😋 I hope I'm still doing cold-weather biking when I'm 55.

  16. I woke up to find a new donation was made to my #BikeMS account. I was surprised to see it was from my very first editing boss, from my days at NTC/Contemporary Books, in 1999. (NTC/Contemporary is now McGraw-Hill Professional.) What a wonderful way to start the day!

You can donate too! Help rid the world of MS. mssociety.donordrive.com/index

  17. I am training this year for #BikeMS as my big ride so I'm repeating my training regiment from last year with tweaks - learned a lot from training for PMC 2022!
