  1. I got a new #CD (17-track two-CD set) today. Album released in October 2025 to some formats but the CDs only came out this month. I pre-ordered in November so I've been waiting awhile.
Album is Syndicate by The Midnight.

I use #Asunder to rip CDs to #FLAC files on my PC, and I listen immediately after ripping to make sure the files are good. I generate sha256 hashes to keep with the flacs.

I've been playing on repeat. I love it.

  6. After ripping a new #CD the other day to #FLAC, I decided to rip some of my older #CDs as .flac, particularly some I've had since the '90s and early 2000s.

These albums have seen a lot of use, so I I need to listen closely to be sure there aren't errors due to scratches. Sometimes I hear odd little sounds that I don't recall, so I'm comparing them to my 192kbps mp3s (ripped circa 2006) and YouTube to determine if the sounds I"m hearing are part of the recording.

  11. Asunder is a fantastic CD ripper. The UI is no-nonsense: just what you need, no more. It has managed to rip all my 100+ CDs, regardless of their quality (and many of these have come from charity shops), and every disc was recognised, including all the kerrang tie-in CDs. I whole-heartedly recommend.

  12. "(Anasthesia) Pulling Teeth" (Metallica, Kill 'Em All, 1983)

    160kbps MP3 ripped with iTunes in 2016

    vs.

#FLAC made with #Asunder this week

    Mixed channel spectrogram with #SonicVisualiser

There's an awful lot being cut out of the MP3, and maybe you can hear it and maybe you can't. On this track, it probably doesn't make a difference. But it's a stark visual.

  17. @igwigg Ich habe früher immer fre:ac genutzt unter Windows. Ist #foss, beherrscht Lossless-Formate und hat #CDDB. Unter #Linux nutze ich #Asunder.

    EDIT: Link

  18. #Linux #Mint22 #asunder

Anyone else finding Asunder is just sitting there, flashing the drive light occasionally? It did the CDDB lookup ok. I've tried an update and upgrade...

Hang on... it's fine with other CDs. "Fragile" by Yes rips fine on Mrs Walrus's Apple, but not on here, so I suspect some kind of copy protection shit is happening.

  19. Finally getting around to ripping my CD collection to #FLAC files! Did some initial research on tools and found #Asunder to work great for encoding to FLAC. #MusicBrainzPicard is a fast and simple solution for tagging and applying album covers.

  24. @duskcomics Oh man, so much! Being a host on the Metalheads Podcast we get so many promos. Listening to #metal is like a second job. 🤣 But lately I’ve been heavily spinning albums by #chromeghost, #Phobophilic #goatwhore #wake, #daeva #autonoesis #blackbraid #psychonaut #graceless, #TheOtolith and #ancesthor. Also been doing deep dives on a couple faves #Evoken and #Asunder.

  26. @krutor
    GUI, GNOME: Sound Juicer
Or Clementine when using that as music library anyway, or Asunder.

  27. @Krypton Not exactly downloading but second hand CD's are dirt cheap nowadays and they have superior sound quality. I use to rip them and copy them to my music server.
