At this time, I'd like to thank #Gracenote for buying the #CDDB project and locking us all out. I was the opposite of thankful at that time, but that buyout gave us the #FreeDB fork, then GnuDB, and, later, #Musicbrainz.

TIL that freedb hasn't existed since 2020. But gnudb does!
https://gnudb.org/
And it has the first disc! Marked up properly, unlike Gracenote, who lost all of the accented characters ...
https://gnudb.org/cd/df0e7b83I'm still mad about the CDDB/Gracenote thing which happened almost 24 years ago ...

If you have old software that uses CDDB to retrieve track info for CD playback and you want it to still work (CDDB and FreeDB are gone), I got you:

CW: Long thread/3
#Gamers were right to be worried. Giant companies love to #rugpull their fans, tempting them into a commons with lofty promises of a system that we will all have a stake in, using the fans for unpaid creative labor, then #enclosing the fans' work and selling it back to them. It's a tale as old as #CDDB and #Disgracenote:

Are there any free #CDDB servers out there? My defaults have shut down and https://codeyarns.com/tech/2020-08-27-how-to-set-cddb-server.html isn't looking too good either.
