  1. So I am always a weird soup evangelist, but this time of year, I'm a bit extra.

So just a reminder, making soup is easy, very forgiving, and you don't have to think about whether your veg looks good or not, just blend it up, so discount veg is your friend. Add some lentils and/or butter beans for heft.

You can fancy it up with flavoured oils, grated parmesan, some diced chorizo, whatever, but even plain, it's nutritious and warming and stores really well in the freezer.

  2. ArkScript has never, and never will accept AI/LLM use in any way, shape or form, and all contributors are held to the same standard.

Life always finds a way, they say in Jurassic Park, and slop has no life. It is bound to disappear (and alas leave a pile of garbage code, asset and whatever behind), it isn’t helping anyone (it even makes you dumber), it’s stealing copyrighted content and pushing this dumb productivity mindset (“we have to produce more than yesterday and less than tomorrow, to sell, sell and sell again”)

I don’t want any of that in my projects. ArkScript is a language for humans, made by humans. Sure it has design flaws, but that doesn’t mean I should use AI to fix those, nor that AI would have prevented such flaws. We learn by making mistakes and by iterating, AI is only a statistical soup of data, giving you a probabilistic output given an input, which is bound to be bad because the masses aren’t always right!

  4. After an absurdly dry and sunny October*, it's raining. The pitter patter of comfort and joy is most welcome.

Planned a soup today in celebration.

*I know how gorgeous a chilly, sunny fall day is in our area, but balance. We're a temperate wet area where rain gear is required, not a January desert.

  5. Soon we’ll have frost, and sorrel is NOT hardy, so I just put on sweats to go out in the yard and pick a lot of it for soup.

  6. It is sweet to let the mind unbend on occasion.

  7. It is weird that someone cheating is bigger news then supporting genocide.

  8. It is a loading screen for the bad guys.

Rotate any API credentials exposed on systems running LiteLLM, audit your installations, and watch for suspicious outbound traffic. Operator action required; the update button is not your friend today.

Reward: You've received a Cursed Dependency — soulbound, untradeable, already installed.

  9. It is this condition and necessity which has created the need for a specialized field of public relations. Business now calls in the public relations counsel to advise it, to interpret its purpose to the public, and to suggest those modifications which may make it conform to the public demand. --Edward Bernays, Propaganda (1928) #propaganda #disinformation #misinformation #fakenews #uniparty #EconomicHappinessMachine

  10. “It is a version of America frozen in time within Manzanar’s fences & here on its baseball field,” [Kwong] said, still in his team uniform. “When we run its dusty base paths & sit in its sunbaked bleachers, for a few hours the past is unfrozen. And in that thaw, we may face the contradictions embedded in America’s legacy: our welcoming arms & our bigoted rejections, our highest aspirations & our lowest debasements, our cruelty & our kindness, our generosity & our greed.”

  11. It is a strange feeling, how quickly and easily I can open Google Maps and zoom out from my house in Amsterdam, scroll a bit across the Atlantic, zoom back in on the Appalachians and find the three little rectangles that represent my late grandparents' house, workshed and barn on a dirt road in the woods 5500 kilometers away

  12. It is ironic that some of the absolute worst story blurbs come from the authors themselves.

Seriously, ask your friends/beta readers/a stranger if your blurb makes them want to read the story before putting it out there. It's hard for an author to not be too close to the work and thus incapable of looking at it from the perspective of someone who knows nothing about it.

  14. It is the middle of October, and I am finally done with the calendars for 2027. You will get 13 beautiful photos with birds and critters from my yard from the past year and, depending on what format you choose, info about holidays as well as the names of the animals shown. As always, I tried to stick with seasonal photos from the respective months. I'll post a link once it's live. The economy still sucks, so prices are exactly as in previous years and there will be sales. #birds

  18. It is okay to feel grief over figuring out you're Autistic as an adult.

A period of mourning is healthy.

I felt a lot of things. Some of them conflicting or confusing. I felt relief at finally figuring out what was going on, and gratitude I wasn't subjected to ABA, and hope for the future, and, yes, grief.

  19. It is both warm and cold, so … a new long dress! And a new … kinda-fake-suede(?) shirt idek. Old stinky shoes. I should really figure out how to wash those some day.

  20. It is almost as if John Lennon saw the FOTUS’s arrival on the scene decades ago.

  21. It is frustrating when you are ready to pack up your laptop but the screen hangs indefinitely. A slow PC shutdown is often caused by the Fast Startup feature or stubborn background services waiting to close. 24. It is really funny when people try to borrow foodstuff from me. I may have lost about 70 pounds in 3 years from my walking and eating less than 2,000 calories most days, but take one look at my stomach and you should know that my diet consists mostly of frozen pizza and mac & cheese and cookies.

  25. It is wild how a messy contract dispute in 1991 gave us the PlayStation. Sony and Nintendo were working together until things went sideways at a trade show. This story is a great reminder that clear agreements are just as important as the hardware itself. I put together a look at the Nintendo PlayStation history on my blog here: gwizit.com/go/AVNfRXa
