You may have missed this post as I didn't include any of my usual hashtags, but I cannot praise this slim volume highly enough.

There's a reprint of the back cover text at
    deuchars.org.uk/publication/#b
where you'll find links to where you can buy it. (My copy was a first 1997 edition, when it was priced £3.75, and I bought it from the author at a #festival in #Braunston in 1998.)

Meanwhile in #norfolkuk I spent half an hour clearing the leaves that, thanks to #StormBert, had accumulated outside our front door

  7. Today was spent cleaning our boat. We walked to The Rising Sun to have lunch, then returned to carry on with the cleaning.

    Your boat's a copy cat!

This is what we found on Singing the Blues when we stepped aboard last week.

The water is coming in round the window frames and, thanks to a list to starboard, piles up on the lip on the galley worktop above the fridge.

After 45 years it looks like the sealing round every window frame is failing. ☹️

    You said:
In other news, I ran out of water this evening. 🤣

    I wish I had!

Made the mistake of filling the water tank till it overflowed. We now list to starboard, and the drain in the very shallow shower tray is to port. Makes the shower almost unusable and it's our only large use of water.

Unfortunately, our heavy stuff, water tank, hot water cylinder, and pump out tank all to one side. Only the desel tank is on the other side to balance it.

I can't beat that for graphics, but you can read about the the reason for this one's name and hear a ring tone created to match at:

It even provides a link that explains my previous boat's name, but that was never written on the stern.

It was beautiful here in #NorfolkUK yesterday, as can be seen in my #BBCWeatherWatcher upload. But this morning all I could manage was rain spots on the patio doors obscuring a #kingfisher.

  12. While I was doing our #advent #jigsaw, Diana has tested positive for COVID, but after consultation with relatives we'll still be undertaking our #Christmas tour.

However, the good news is that a new power supply should arrive today to light our #fibreoptic #tree again. 🙂

I have a different approach. My feed is largely limited to a range of #hastags I wish to follow or avoid.

There is a minor problem with hashtags like "blues". I want the musical genre, so have to mute those who post about their favourite football/rugby/ice hockey teams.

If someone follows me I view their profile, and if a sample of recent posts checks out OK, I might follow an individual too.

This is the link about the #Litchfield #Canal I meant to include in my earlier toot. Lots of photos covering the building of the #aqueduct

Not sure what you would have seen on the video, but the #Litchfield #Canal project is fascinating. Back when a new #motorway was built round #Birmingham the builder was forced to provide an #aqueduct in anticipation of the #volunteers #raisingfunds to rebuild the canal. It sits in mid-air to this day. I drive under it regularly. Read more at:

Good to get a #favourite from someone that, at first glance, appears to have so little in common (location, age, interests) with me. Not sure what appealed but thanks!

In contrast to last night's almost urban view here's what I submitted to #BBCweatherwatchers this morning from the other side of the house when my thermometer was showing 19.5°c.

  21. This morning It was decided I needed to take down a rotten #sycamore that was in #danger of falling on visitors vehicles, or even our own. Afterwards it was time to relax with #strawberries and #prosecco. I uploaded the final photo to #bbcweatherwatchers .

Yes, #narrowboats have tillers. That means that anyone with any experience of boats can steer it with ease. Stand at the back. Push the tiller to the right and the stern moves to the right - and you can see it's going to the right. (Just like the trolleys you get at garden centres with fixed wheels at the front and casters at the back)

Compare that with the cruiser you'll hire on the Norfolk Broads. Many of them have a single level cabin, no wheelhouse, no flybridge - there's bridges with 8ft clearance or less to get under. They'll have wheel steering in the saloon in the bows. That's when things get complicated!

If I remember right this video mentions that there are plenty of #Americans that buy #narrowboats and #cruise them for a few months every #summer

It should give you an idea of #cost, and what you get for your money, if nothing else...

I thought I was the only one here who remembers ClipIt.

Other things I remember is installing a #Novell #network and #Ashtontate Framework when I worked in #Cambridgeshire #civilprotection office back in the #1990s.
