  2. Happy #Friday.

This is my #favourite colour, spectacularly displayed in the shocking vibrancy of this beautifully unfolding oriental ooppy flower.

It looks like a volcanic explosion, neatly crimped and folded, in an Issey Miyake fashion show.

It reminds me of the 'Flaming June' portrait by Frederic Leighton, but with more bang for your buck.

If there is an artist out there who can identify this heavenly hue for me then I woukd be most appreciative.

    ☺️🧡

  3. I hear there's another swell of newcomers to the Fediverse / Mastodon. I have no idea what "forkiverse" means, but new people means an opportunity for a reminder:

There is no algorithm here. You see nothing but the posts from accounts and hashtags you follow, and things that those accounts boost.

This means: use the boost button! Liberally! Clicking "favourite" just gives a private thumbs-up to the poster, and has no effect on anything else. The boost button is what makes things happen in the fediverse. It's how you get exposed to new things. It's how you find interesting new people and subjects to follow. It's how you learn fascinating stuff about subjects you didn't know existed from people you don't know, half a world away.

Boost. Boost often. If it's interesting, boost it. If you think others should see it, boost it. If it makes you laugh, boost it.

Boosting isn't rude. It doesn't make you like the bloviating arsehole in that workshop who thinks everyone came to hear the sound of his voice. You aren't monopolizing peoples' feeds, or manipulating them.

We need it. Please boost things!

  4. @jbc Hey Jamie I've been here 4-ish years, it seems like the #favourite is not used all that widely but I use it extensively simply as a "like" or "appreciate" - I see it as positive feedback to the poster.

I only #boost stuff that I want my followers to see, and I kinda curate my account towards fedi-privacy-security news/discussion, and a smattering of trans-queer politics. (Should make another acct for cats/funnys/activism I guess...)

I ALWAYS have favourited what I boost - cos otherwise I wouldn't boost it 🙂

  5. These are a few of my #favourite things (circa 1982):

    • Programmers—Thompson, Ritchie, Kernighan
    • Terminals—VT100, HP2624, HP2645
    • Operating System—UNIX System III

  6. they only thing still missing is to #favourite / #like a currently playing song with a #keyboard #shortcut in @gnome . anyone has an idea how this can be done? audio controls (play/pause and next/previous track) work out of the box

  7. An important #taboo that we must address as a society:

'Most parents won't admit it, but a surprising number have a 'hidden #favourite' and the way they treat that child compared to their siblings can have long-lasting impacts on their mental health as adults and on family relationships.'
