New bus stop further away from hospital entrance, worse for passengers but better for motorists, so local newspaper reports it uncritically as a good thing. New two-hourly orbital bus route mentioned, but removal of through tickets not. We're not even trying for a healthy borough any more, are we?

You remember that replacement of our propped-up RAAC hospital has been delayed so they can build a new car park first because they couldn't possibly use a temporary car park during the build, there's no land nearby available for it, and so on? Well, seems they can get land for the rebuild construction traffic... 🤬

Yes, this is brilliant, at long last connecting active travel from North End and North Lynn directly along Railway Road to The Walks, the stations and the new library by remodelling the A148 and replacing some underused pavement, two or three parking spaces and an underused fourth northbound lane.

This is the same Road Safety Team that objected to a #cycleway continuing across a junction but approved this as a better solution in #kingsLynn #NorfolkUK - I feel the main reason this hasn't killed anyone yet is that most people ignore it and rejoin the carriageway before the end of the road, or turn left and U turn (the "primary" cycle route continues on-road away from the camera). Or give up cycling this route after one attempt and drive because that's what #NorfolkCountyCouncil expect

Want to know why #NorfolkUK #ActiveTravel can't have nice things? This is typical: "The Norfolk County Council (NCC) Road Safety team have been consulted on the suggested Dutch Kerb treatments and these types of features were considered to present a safety risk, given that features such as Dutch Kerbs are not designed for use within a 40mph speed limit environment and users would not be accustomed to encountering such kerbs" and their solution is drop the Dutch kerb, not reroute or make it 30! 🤦

Do I start with a general intro to the limited transport landscape here, the bunch of projects in a trenchcoat pretending to be strategy, or jump right into some of the disaster-zone road-widening proposals? Do written articles, or video (probably slideshow/handlebarcam +narration) reach more? @OccasionalDucks ?

For a long time, #Norwich was protected from this by city grants and delegated highways powers. The rest of #NorfolkUK has seen this so many times: cycling is cut first despite offering the best cost-benefit returns. Plant is a car freak.

@RinglandWoods there's potential for ironic justice in the tip closures in that, if #NorfolkCountyCouncil get their way and become sole council for #norfolkuk, then clearing up and prosecuting flytipping becomes a cost for them instead of the borough-level councils. #kingslynn tip already booking-required, shutting Wednesdays and short hours otherwise.

Here's more info on what those oak trees are doing there. All those involved are superstars and I thank them profusely. Now every time I ride to town, I'll probably pass either these new seven oaks or the Seven Sisters in the Walks. Trees are great and make me smile.

On 12 September here in #NorfolkUK we had a visit from a bird I struggle to identify. It was light enough to walk across the lilies in the lake. My book suggests it is a #greensandpiper. It's the only one that's close with such a pronounced white underside and hint of a white ring round the eye, but it could be some other #sandpiper.
I'd love to know what it was, so I can start a 2024 page to follow this one:

The water is coming in round the window frames and, thanks to a list to starboard, piles up on the lip on the galley worktop above the fridge.
After 45 years it looks like the sealing round every window frame is failing. ☹️
