  1. #Oumuamua was first spotted on October 19, 2017, by a telescope in Hawaii called Pan-STARRS 1.

At first, scientists thought it was just a regular comet or asteroid -- But as they watched it more closely, they realized it was very different.

Here are some key things about Oumuamua:

#Shape: Unlike most asteroids or comets which are round or lumpy, Oumuamua was long and thin, like a cigar or a pancake. Scientists believe it was shaped somewhat like a cucumber.

#Movement: It moved incredibly fast! It came into our solar system from a direction that wasn’t expected for a regular comet. It then zipped around the Sun and headed back out into space.

No #Tail: Comets usually have a bright tail of gas and dust as they get close to the Sun. This tail forms when the Sun’s heat causes ice on the comet to turn into gas. But Oumuamua didn’t have a tail, which was very unusual for something moving so fast near the Sun.

#Brightness Changes: As it tumbled through space, its brightness changed a lot. This told scientists that it was spinning and that its shape was very elongated.

Because it was so different from anything we had seen before, Oumuamua sparked many ideas and theories.

  4. Omg, Lemon just ran downstairs like a maniac and started running laps through the living room in a blind panic. I saw something hanging off her tail but she didn't even hear me when I called her. Finally she ran up her scratching post just as I was standing next to it, and I saw they were these sticky fly catchers that were in the flower pots upstairs. I quickly pulled them off and she even hissed at me, that's how terrified she was. Poor baby.. 😢

  5. I came across this #1976 #advertising catalogue for a #Woodworking #workbench that has some interesting features. It's foldable, has a shoulder and tail vice, and a top storage area and comes from a company called Leichtung Tools in #cleveland #ohio. In 2025 dollars it would have cost $1600.

  14. Also at the botanic gardens was a Yellow Wattlebird, and another Eastern Rosella. When the rosella called, it partially fanned its tail, which I caught here.

Back at our campsite this afternoon, a Galah wandered past the caravan, so I took its photo too.

  20. It is around 8am here, and my Nini wants to call attention to it being rub-a-belly o’clock. She was indulged, so no worries! #HavaneseDogs Note my stylish morning footwear. Ooooo lala! When leather sandals are too impractical, you wear these EVA ones instead. Bonus points for my compression socks. What you can’t see is Nini wagging her tail so much her body wags. #GoodMorningMastodon

  22. Forget what I said about track 1. He starts with a sample that makes you think he's gonna start getting real, and he starts off like he's gonna talk some serious shit. Then his next line is "Girls from Atlanta call me Santa / Girls from Australia, what can I tail (tell) ya / You know I love you so much" No ghostwriting here. He wrote this.

Hey, a beat switch. Better production. He samples the "X-Games Mode" guy, hahaha.

  27. Ahoy, it’s starting out to be one of those days. En-sweet basin is not draining. Cleaning of basin tail-piece and trap did not resolve the issue. Its twin in the hall bath is fine. Guessing there’s some saving soap and toothpaste ooze that I couldn’t get to.

Oh and there are loo fill cocks to be serviced and the en-suite walk in shower drain needs a trap clean. So friendly Atomic Plumbing has been called and comes today.

  28. Deepti Sharma has Tryon given LBW, and it is sent upstairs quickly. The review confirms that there is no bat involved and it is just OK on line, impact and wickets (umpire's call x 2, just FTR). India 221-8 in the 42nd, and if de Klerk is to do it she will have to do so with the tail for company. Sharma now has 4-39 from 8.5, and if India do indeed win is a shoo-in for POTM given her earlier half century).
