  3. #Oumuamua was first spotted on October 19, 2017, by a telescope in Hawaii called Pan-STARRS 1.

At first, scientists thought it was just a regular comet or asteroid -- But as they watched it more closely, they realized it was very different.

Here are some key things about Oumuamua:

#Shape: Unlike most asteroids or comets which are round or lumpy, Oumuamua was long and thin, like a cigar or a pancake. Scientists believe it was shaped somewhat like a cucumber.

#Movement: It moved incredibly fast! It came into our solar system from a direction that wasn’t expected for a regular comet. It then zipped around the Sun and headed back out into space.

No #Tail: Comets usually have a bright tail of gas and dust as they get close to the Sun. This tail forms when the Sun’s heat causes ice on the comet to turn into gas. But Oumuamua didn’t have a tail, which was very unusual for something moving so fast near the Sun.

#Brightness Changes: As it tumbled through space, its brightness changed a lot. This told scientists that it was spinning and that its shape was very elongated.

Because it was so different from anything we had seen before, Oumuamua sparked many ideas and theories.

  9. Notes on #UAP Discussions : Just note the 3 in 3i/Atlas. We only have the three. #Oumuamua was weird compared to what we previously considered “ normal” for comets precisely because the comets we know the most about originate from our own solar system, not #Interstellar space. It’s exciting that those origins reflect unexpected behavioral mysteries. This shakes up our thinking and expectations in all the right ways and exposes hubris for what it is. Curiosity will trump arrogance every time

  10. #3iAtlas is the most exotic "#comet" we have ever seen in the history of #astronomy.
More weirdness that makes it less likely to be a natural phenomenon.

    - It's increased in brightness by x5 between May and June. This can not be explained by sublimation, as its way too cold at that distance (6.3AU out)...but it COULD be explained by moving faster...😬 Or...application of breaking thrusters (speculative)

    - Is there evidence for this? There may well be. There is Nickel metal in the coma (chart) with no other metal present (thruster debris).

    - There is no observable NGA presently (Non Gravitational Acceleration) despite apparent outgassing. This thing is moving at a constant rate. 👉this is without precedent in nature👈
The rate of speed change is just above 1km/h.
This rate is something expected from an object without outgassing. And there is plenty of evidence it's outgassing. The other two observed interstellar comets has x10 and x100 NGA.
    UNPRECEDENTED

    - Just to make this weirder...#oumuamua ACCELERATED (NGA) at a rate x100 more...WITH NO OUTGASSING

    - #NASA is not releasing any meaningful information like this ...which may simply mean, that like many Government bodies under #tRump, the political cadre , not experts are making the decisions.

  17. '#Oumuamua was the first interstellar object detected passing through our solar system, notable for its elongated shape and unexpected acceleration as it moved away from the Sun.

Its origin and composition remain subjects of scientific debate, with theories ranging from a nitrogen iceberg to, more controversially, a piece of #Alien technology.

  31. In the past weeks I see many videos on YT with titles indicating that the interstellar object Oumuamua has either recently accelerated again or "has returned" / "is headed back to us" and the claims are often associated with physicist Dr. Michi Kaku.

But, looking at every such video I find, there is no mention of anything like this having been observed.

Such an occurrence would be remarkable, and so I assume this is just another example of extreme click-bating that's certainly been on the rise recently.

I assume no one reading has heard such an actual claim. ?
