Ayer tuvimos sesión de Saltmarsh resacosa. Buena parte del grupo no se acuerda de lo que pasó, pero cierto mapache rastrero apuntó los nombres para el grupo que se habían mencionado la noche anterior, para escarnio del resto.
Ahora toca hacer preparativos para un viaje peligroso a lo desconocido... aunque el hijastro del benefactor quiere dejarlo en la estacada (según dice, porque el señor está pachucho, pero como para fiarse...). Vamos a una tienda de alquimia porque hay que pertrecharse.

@badgefed is an open-source project that generates digital recognition in the form of #OpenBadges.
OpenBadges is a specification based on JSON. BadgeFed currently uses version 2 of the spec.
The main difference with v3 is verification.
In OpenBadges v3, the badge can be verified by itself because the verification information is embedded in the credential.
In OpenBadges v2, verification requires retrieving information from the issuer and badge endpoints.
For our use case, issuing recognition on the internet, this is not a problem.
In fact, we actually WANT that external verification step.
It allows badges to reference issuer endpoints and remain connected to the systems that created them.

Hey Fediverse!
The changes have been coming fast and furious, so much happening that we couldn’t keep up with individual posts! But here we are with something big to share.
BadgeFed 0.0.2 is Live!
After incredible feedback from our community (huge thanks to @[email protected] for the contributions to @badgefed, it became clear we needed a new release.

🐳 Docker-Ready
We’ve restructured everything for easier deployment. Now you can mount all persistent storage cleanly.
🌍 Global Expansion
- New BadgeFed server in Poland running on Kubernetes! Follow @[email protected]
- New official domain: https://badgefed.org/ - we’ve grown! 🎉
With our new domain comes new opportunities—and new challenges! We’re currently exploring how to implement the ActivityPub Move activity to enable seamless account migration between BadgeFed servers. This would allow users to migrate their badge credentials and followers when moving between instances, maintaining the decentralized spirit while ensuring user sovereignty over their digital achievements.

We implemented FEP-67ff: FEDERATION.md (thanks @[email protected]!)—you can see exactly how BadgeFed federates.

This brought back memories of those days spent downloading dlls from the internet, praying they'd not be malware.
But this time, I simply snagged one from a local Windows.old folder and replaced the faulty one in the new install.
Ah, the good-old times returned for a moment.

@fajfer has helped #badgefed by deploying it to its first Kubernetes environment, smoothing out the rough edges to make it work properly, and now I’m proudly quoting his badge to test quotes!

Finally finished my @badgefed presentation for @fosdem !
Now comes the real challenge, trimming it down for time. With the schedule so tight and back-to-back talks, I might need to shorten or cut some slides. Looks like my slot may be 15 min instead of 20 if anything runs over!

I have been thinking what it was #linkedin in the pre-crappy pre-influencer era, and it was jobs postings + professional networking + celebrating professional achievements.
If we look to build a "linkedin" in the fediverse, job postings could pretty much be (and it was for many years) forums, so #lemmy or #nodebb could achieve that. #lemmy could even foster professional discussions.
Celebrating could be #badgefed, and professional networking could happen inside #mastodon.
If you create a site with the 3, interconnected, reducing friction (e.g. single sign-on between the three) it could have some traction.
One can only dream.
