  1. @openfuture

    Hmm.
If we keep the billions of euros that social media generates on our continent every year
and circulate that revenue in our own thriving business ecosystem, then we can
    - feed local jobs / boost FLOSS community
    - create European Social Stack
    - fix Public Interest Infrastructure
    - …

    —as discussed at #opensocial #opensocialweb #noaw #fediforum #fosdem etc.. etc..
    (great work again, aditya! tnx!)

  2. The Meta-Mess of the “Open” Social Web

Signal, Noise, and the missing ground - We have a signal-to-noise problem, that if we’re serious about “paths to growth,” we need to be honest about the paths and people pushing us down paths we’re actually walking. The problem was never just the #dotcons platforms. It’s what we build instead - and more importantly, how and why we build it. Right now, too much of the #openweb conversation is caught in narrative loops of reframing stagnation as growth, critique as progress and […]

  3. Thank you so much again to @[email protected] @[email protected] for a wonderful Fediforum.

I'm putting this in writing. As I said at FediForum, I appreciate y'all so much that if I ever have another child I promise we'll name them after y'all.

    JohAnca.

I expect they'll one day marry John Mastodon and bring about the golden age of the internet.

  4. We completed another awesome #FediForum, and I would like to thank to the everyone I had a conversation with there for participating in a collaboration on shaping the future of the #OpenSocialWeb. I hope to see every participant, and more, in the next FediForum this fall. @[email protected]

  5. FediForum Number 7 Is Happening And It Makes Me Happy

The 7th FediForum is happening right now (yesterday, today, and tomorrow). There are two a year and I love going to them.

You can follow along using the hashtag #FediForum.

Most of the talks are a bit above my pay-grade, but I always learn something or get to try a new open source/open web technology.

I also get to see many of my buddies on the open social web (AT Proto/Bluesky and ActivityPub) over video from across the web and engage with them all in real time.

The discussions are top notch and there is even a sense of a hallway chat area in the online software Johannes and Anca (the organizers) use.

They also use collaborative note taking, so even though the video/recordings are non-existent, there are great notes collaboratively made and later posted on the FediForum.org site after the event.

If you get a chance to make a FediForum, you really should attend. The tickets are affordable and the community is so nice!

  7. How To Bullshit Your Way Through a Conversation about ActivityPub

I (Evan) will be giving talk at Fediforum 26-04 next week, April 28, 2026, on the exciting topic of faking your way through ActivityPub conversations. Here's the description: "One of the best bluffers in the field of distributed social networks gives you just enough knowledge about ActivityPub to sound smarter than everyone around you. In this talk, Evan will cover the essential architecture of ActivityPub, what works and what doesn't, and what is coming up next for the standard. You'll walk […]

  12. @cbase

hamishcampbell.com/live-at-c-b You likely need a shovel to work on composting. Or if you want to continue with this then clearer naming the events for the minority they invite and host would help to make less mess, a few #NGO groups have started to do this like #FediForum and the #SWF now have less imperialistic language, which is at least is a little less blinded.

  14. LIVE at c-base a #fluffy Fediverse conference

It's been going on for the last few years, let's look at a current example. Live at c-base is a #Fediverse event that highlights the need for composting the dogmatic #fluffy mess making to keep balance in our shared #openweb reboot. With our #fluffy crew talking about the shared reboot, on the surface it looks positive - friendly conversations, smiles, the right hashtags - but underneath it reveals a deeper problem: there is zero balance at these events. This is the third event I’ve seen […]

  15. @pepecyb

I'd rather say:"rediscover the wheel".. the Fediverse is *excruciatingly hard* to navigate, and I'd love to have your help.

So there was this cool discussion at #FediForum. Nomadic Identity with #Zot came up, along with W3C LOLA and others.

So now, I'm just trying to continue the FediForum discussion and collect info about what's out there. I've promised the wagoneers on #Bandwagon that they'll be able to take their accounts anywhere.

So, is Zot the one true way to get this done?

  16. The #fediverse, a collection of #decentralised web products, aims to provide a viable #open web alternative to corporate #socialmedia.

💗 While it has a #passionate user base, it remains a #niche platform.

📲 At #FediForum, new apps like #Bounce, #Surf, and #Bandwagon were showcased, demonstrating progress in social graph migration, feed management, and monetisation for creators.

  17. We had a FediTest session at #FediForum this past Friday, run by @j12t. Probably should have announced this here up-front, but forgot.

Good discussion and feedback with a bunch of fediverse developers in the (virtual) room. Some people are trying it out right now.

We better get our next release out soon ... stay tuned!
