  1. RE: social.heise.de/@heiseonlineen

In any kind of normal timeline this would have been stopped by regulators. Instead we let a single company become the sole gatekeeper for everything in .

SchedMD are the makers of , the (only) Open Source cluster scheduler, and used by a large majority of cluster computers. Nvidia bought Mellanox a few years ago, the maker of Infiniband, the main network technology for clusters.

  2. I needed some wire because of LED lighting.

LED light bulbs are great, but they're heavier than the old incandescent ones. So my cheap knock-off desk lamp kept sagging from the weight.

I *could* find a new set of springs with a larger spring constant. But an easier fix is to restrict part of each spring, effectively making them shorter, and resisting a larger weight. Works fine!

  3. @Gina

  5. New film on YouTube: I Do Not Recognize The Bodies In The Water

  7. event at Parco City here on . And one stand is selling coffee beans grown on just west of the main island.

Price: 50000 yen for 100g. That's about 280 Euro or 330 dollars. No, I did not buy any 😋

  8. This is big: has reached 1.0.

Spack is (effectively) a distro-indepenedent package manager specifically for clusters. We've been evaluating it for years and we're most likely going to use it for our next machine.

Really happy to see it reach stable status!

  15. FYI, if you live in you may want to know that has a policy of stating that their Ethernet cables are compliant with a given specification, even when they *don't actually* comply and don't meet the requirements.

Maybe skip Elecom the next time you buy Ethernet or USB cables, or anything else that needs to follow a specification to work well.

It's perhaps not a coincidence their Bluetooth mice seem unable to maintain a stable connection, for instance.

  16. New ! From an 8 year old rx570 8GB to a , on 25.04. Mostly great!

    A local (qwen2.5 14B) using Vulkan ran at 2.1 tokens/s. It now runs at 48T/s - a 25x improvement in compute performance.

The same scene in with maxed out 4K settings ran at 12-15fps. It now sits at 60fps, with the GPU at only 80%. *And* it uses less power doing so (system power from 295w to 275w).

Not perfect - fails at startup. This is normal for new hardware on Linux and will be fixed.
