Herculine (Grace Byron) – A young trans woman recovering from religious trauma, conversion therapy and being stalked by literal demons ends up at an all-trans-girl rural commune run by her toxic ex. Alas, the little utopia hinges on some very dark supernatural secrets.
I was expecting to love this a lot more than I did. The pacing really let things down and didn't allow for any suspense to be built up. Major escalations happened in the space of a sentence or two with no real weight or pause appropriate to what happened. It felt very "then this happened, and then this happened" which I don't think works for the themes it attempts. It could do with being given more time to breathe, sit with its fear and let the characters develop more. Even the sex seemed rushed, which feels like a first for a trans authored story.
On the plus sides though, I enjoyed the demonology and commune aspects, and it felt like a very real and dirty T4T novel; the kind of internal trans cultural narrative you don't often see in print; and a critical one at that. Grace clearly has some gripes with how shitty we can all be with each other, yet the necessity of our community.

I watched a video of Byron Katie* doing #TheWork with a lady who was deeply sad about being alone.
She cries in the video and my heart goes out to her. She reminds me of some people I've met who have the opposite reaction: they have been disappointed by #ModernDating that they openly say they've given up on love!"
Deeper Teaching and profound insight: "Be the person you love living with the most."
Key Learning /Wisdom:
When you're disconnected from yourself, life feels lonely regardless of relationship status. The loneliness isn't solved by finding someone else - it's resolved by coming home to yourself.
My Takeaway/the Ultimate Truth:
"You are the beloved. You're the one you want. You're the one you need. You're the one who is always there for you."The question becomes: How can you be the beloved to yourself 1st so whoever comes along expands your joy?

Extreme obedience assumes ignorance in the one who obeys; it assumes ignorance even in the one who commands; he does not have to deliberate, to doubt, or to reason; he has only to want.

Lest we forget:
As historian AJP Taylor wryly remarked, the BBC’s first Director General [Baron John] Reith had "managed to preserve the technical independence of the BBC by suppressing news which the government did not want published. This set a pattern for the future: the vaunted independence of the #BBC was secure so long as it was NOT exercised."

The mathematical theory of linkages was once found beautiful, but is now comparatively unknown.
One of its highlights was what Florian Cajori (1859–1930) called the ‘beautiful discovery’ of the Peaucellier–Lipkin linkage (found independently in 1864 and 1871), a simple mechanism that transforms circular motion into linear motion (see attached image).
The importance of such a mechanism is that it can produce straight-line motion without using guide-rails and thus reducing friction. Previous linkages such as James Watt's (1736–1819) only *approximated* straight-line motion.
J.J. Sylvester, (1814–97) (who characterized his mathematical work as ‘the worship of the True & Beautiful’) admired a pump based on the linkage for ‘[i]ts elegance, and the frictionless ease with which it can be worked (beauty as usual the stamp and seal of perfection)’.
When the physicist William Thomson (later Baron Kelvin; 1824–1907) was able to work a model of the linkage, he was reluctant to hand it back, saying: ‘No! I have not had nearly enough of it — it is the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life’.

Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge Old and New
The Stone Arch Bridge is a classic symbol of Minneapolis. It is a view of an era gone by, mixed with the modern. The bridge built by a great railroad baron, was used to create much of the wealth of the region being the means by which grain could come to market in the breadbasket of the country.
