@lovelybookshelf You bring up an impt point about accurately reporting #homeschool enrollment statistics: What actually constitutes #HomeEducation?
If a child is subject to attendance requirements - state testing (not chosen by the parent) - is eligible to receive #SpEd and #IEP services - has access to sports and after-school programming BUT all their instruction happens at home through online instruction, that child is generally not considered a homeschooler.

What really bugs me about this sloppy research is why would a private company inflate state stats by more than 3x the actual number, in some cases?
Is #Outschool peddling for more venture capital funding?
Are they angling for state funding as a potential partner in hybrid school options?
Are they trying to recruit more teachers to buld their portfolio of classes?
Or, is it really just sloppy work by a former employee that had nominal oversight?

I’ve been tracking #homeschool statistics and trends in Maryland for 15+ years and as of June 2022 #MSDE had just under 45,000 homeschool kids. That's more than just an oopsie typo by #Outschool. /3

@Leork Not defending flat-earthers, but if you're going to come after #homeschooling & call certain #curriculum choices #ChildAbuse, then you have to look at what #PublicSchools are teaching. Like #Texas teaching Moses as essentially a US Founding Father. Or, the countless districts that use Fountas & Pinella or Calkins instructional material that do not actually teach kids to read. If you really want to talk about abuse, we can examine the excessive use of restraint & seclusion on #SpEd kids.

Question for crunchy granola masto peeps: What's your favorite bar #shampoo? I've been trying out the Good Time brand, as a way to reduce my #CarbonFootprint from #PlasticPollution. I like it well enough, but I'm curious if there's other brands available in the US that I could try. FWIW, I have extremely thick #hair and I'm in a chlorine pool at least twice a week. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

@lussenpop This misuse of #police power at the #SpecialNeeds #school in #Illinois is appalling, but not surprising. In #Maryland, LEAs are required to report #student #arrest data. The 1st yr, Frederick County said they had ZERO #StudentArrest. An #FOIA to the local #sherrif showed that to be a lie. In 2021, a #DOJ investigation revealed #FCPS "unnecessarily and repeatedly secluded and restrained" students with disabilities "thousands" of times over 2.5 school years, in violation of the ADA. /1

Sitting in a zoom meeting and the woman facilitator just referred to the 4 women #DistrictCourt #judges in #HowardCounty #Maryland as the "harem" for the sole male #HoCo sitting #judge. For context, this meeting is made up of #lawyers and other people working in the court system.
