  2. Cutting corners.

Laid the skirt over the muddy bit, which is now walkable 😆

Then dug out the huge area for the extended corner skirt. Last time I did this first and that was a mistake because the huge hole was very much in the way, so this time I did everything else first, then dug the corner. Experience!

Hoping to fill the trench back in today. The corner skirting goes slow as there's a lot of cutting and two-way grading.

Some black crud goes over the joints where I've trimmed the glue. Where its not trimmed it has a waterproof skin.

Also had to carefully dig out the adjoining piece from the previous section. I had a board there to protect it but that didn't work too well.

  12. Waited half a day for the mud to dry out a little and then squished around in it to drill a bunch more holes into the rocks, installed rebar, an end piece so the concrete doesn't run out and then the vertical part of the insulation, which are always a bit tricky to align.

In this section there were a lot of protruding rocks to be insulated around.

Then the extended footing on the bottom and the sun went down again.

    Horizontal part tomorrow, I hope!

  17. Since that's no good, I've been doing some other jobs this morning and hoping for it to dry a bit.

Under the old harrow I hauled away were several small Linden saplings. I dug them up and replanted them by the forest edge near the spring. Planting trees brightens the mood.

Then hauled some more junk up from the valley shack, including parts of this tiny hut that fell down. I found a message, someone had written "pasaku namelis" (little fairy house) on the inside above the door. Curious. Always wondered what that thing was for. Fairies, apparently. They seem to have moved out a while ago.

  28. Fallen apple tree processed and the big branch of the other tree as well. It was that branch which stopped the apple tree from destroying the fence, so I'm grateful.

This isn't even all of the branches, there is another pile I had to drag out of the way because I couldn't get past anymore.

There's going to be a LOT of woodchipping this autumn, but first this stuff can lay here awhile until the leaves drop off. Makes for better woodchips without them.

I tried some of the little red apples. They look nice but are really tart. I assume they were used for pig food in the past.

I'm ready for a calm, dry autumn 😠

  29. Tackling the big fallen apple tree.

The trunk was hollow with rot inside and yet it made all those (small and sour) apples.

In between, a lot of chainsaw problems. Oiler blocked because some wood chips got in there somehow and then when I fixed that the next pull the stupid double-recoil starter broke.

Luckily its a standard Zenoah clone and lookit, the entire recoil assembly from a donor body fit right on it. Style upgrade, too! 😁

And it has normal pull start now. I hated that double recoil "feature".

The tree had a load of branches and fell on another two trees breaking another big branch, so its a mess to clear out and a lot of branches to drag out to the now huge piles.

  30. A lot of the sunflowers have somehow survived or recovered, even if they got twisted half off their stems.

The sweetcorn got flattened but the two biggest cobs that we were keeping for next years seeds are still there. Lucky!

Most apples got knocked off the big tree, a few still on there though. One tree in the back broke many branches full of apples. The other with the nice red apples survived intact.

The most sorry I am about the big spruce losing its top. That was a nice tree and we relocated the entire kitchen garden to let it live. I guess we'll find out if spruces can survive without their tip or not.

It crashed into the raspberries but those grow back like weeds anyway.

We lost a week as well so now we're even more behind on everything 🙀

Spot the stork! This stork always hangs out with the herd. I think it likes milk or something.

  32. A Day in the Life at Duffney’s Bird Barn

How I balance a remote career, homesteading, crochet, writing, and motherhood—one day at a time. People often ask me how I find time to do everything. Honestly... Some days I wonder the same thing. The weeds don't always get pulled. The laundry doesn't always get folded. The dishes aren't always done when I want them to be. Some crochet projects take longer than I planned, and there are days when my to-do list is still staring back at me when it's time for bed. I've learned that's […]

  33. Hmm, could use some kind of dumper right about now 😅

Also some new wheels and tyres for this thing. Those are really hard to find (at a non-ridiculous price, that is).

Anyone got some Simson moped wheels laying around they don't need?

  34. Still no foundation digging weather with all this rain, so I grudgingly have to do some other stuff.

Been down in the valley with the brush cutter, clearing a path through the jungle to get to the crooked old shack there.

Inside is some old wood that may have once been the old sauna building by the river which is long gone but was stored here for re-use.

Hauled a load up to the farm. Some usable stuff, although full of big nails. And some fuel for the sauna boiler.

There are many more treasures down there, but I can't haul too much in one go up the steep and muddy tractor road, nor can I go too often or the road gets too churned up.

  35. Framed up a platform, covered it with OSB and heaved the mixer up there.

My scrap wood pile is shrinking but apart from the OSB everything is from said pile.

Drenched in sweat but the show must go on.

  36. Silly little details that take forever, but then who wants to leave the ends open for grass and dirt to get in.

  37. Hauled a trailer full of metal to the scrap dealer, 323 kg Steel and 11 kg Aluminium.

Minus 5% income tax that yielded €100, some cake and more space in the yard 🥳

Edit: Oh, also while I was throwing my junk on a giant pile I got to watch a stripped bare Volvo chassis get smashed flat and stacked on top of that pile of car bones. Exercise, entertainment and you get paid for it!

  38. Rugged phone owner tip: If your USB-C port doesn't work anymore, maybe the port isn't really broken and you just need to clean the mud out of it occasionally so the plug can go in all the way again 😆

  39. We bought our little farm 7 years ago and there were various artifacts on the site. This one has been given a sacred space on our back porch. I am always thankful for animals that give sustenance (we get eggs and milk from ours) or companionship.

  40. The #Vulpibus folks are now just past the halfway point of their journey, which is only possible thanks to your #fedihelp #mutualaid!

But to get all the way there #gtfomystate, hundreds of dollars are still needed for the cost of fuel and food in this capitalist nightmare, and a few hundred more for preventing their car from being towed away for non payment of loans and insurance.

Let's call the goal $1000 over this next few days. This will help with a couple of maintenance things too hopefully.

Progress was made this last few days on the #electrical breaker box, on sewing of a lovely cloak for Inara, and on the gene editing system ( gitlab.vulpinedesigns.com and be sure to familiarise yourself with Qt Creator if you want to see the concepts being laid out first paw).

You are all amazing people living in this same messed up world as us. You know what you can and cannot manage to do. Be strong. Be loved. Receive the tolerance you give.

#Freestuff along the route always appreciated and considered.

One thing currently on the to get list is a clothes washing machine, preferably front load as a single or small unit sized combo machine with tumble dryer.

Another is a countertop sized dishwasher.

And a three quarters height, narrow width fridge-freezer.

If you have any of these spare in IA, NE or CO in working or easy-repair condition, please let us know.

    ---

When the bus reaches its destination, a commune is to be established with its own off grid systems and food growing. The lab is to be expanded. We intend to help people escape and learn and transform into what they truly want to be.

When I say we, I mean a broad loose-knit network of agents across the world who are a decentralised, unstoppable force for good. The Vulpibus is a catalyst and a tool, the people know how to use it.

Atha is to me a being with great potential focussing on survival when hir real impact should be felt from hir work on gene editing tools for freedom of form.

I fight for hir and everyone to get a fair chance at making that happen. I fight with nice words, sharp words and blunt words, and if needed I will fight with weapons.

A good Nazi is one remembered in history as the discarded husk of our disgraceful mistakes gone by, long since eroded to dust. That starts not just with brute force, but by confounding their efforts in sheer fucking spite.

Join with us now to do just that.
