  5. The less appealing, smaller apples were kept apart and eventually used for a little bit of marmalade. It's my first time trying, hence the small quantity, and I am not too pleased with how chunky it came out. I will look for another recipe or feedback on how to get it more smooth.

  10. My bush experiments. I rescued these three from various horrible places inside rusty fences I was removing and/or choked with Virginia creeper. Planted them here to see what happens.

They looked pretty dead for a while, but two out of three are alive and produced new leaves and twigs. One gooseberry and one rosehip.

Particularly happy about the rosehip surviving. Makes nice filling for Krapfen. Or winter bird food. The fruit stays on the bush long after frost and snow.

The other half of the gooseberry bush was completely dead and I dug out the roots, which were rotten. Two out of three ain't bad though.

    Edit: Can't remember my berries.

  15. Some more firewood, this time without the rain.

My new sawing/splitting area is much nicer than the muddy ditch I had it in before :)

The garden cart is great by the way, very happy with it. I've hauled it heaped with wet soil and it managed that, although I could barely pull it.

  20. Rainy day. Sun came out for a few minutes so I thought yay, let's do some stuff.

Result: Bunch of things got wet and I spent more time hiding from heavy downpours than working. Managed to cut and stack one meagre sawhorse worth of firewood 😫

  25. Because it is very much in the way of progress, I've been attacking the next scrap metal pile.

This included a bunch of thick sheet steel and the old man's harrow.

Also these two weirdly shaped round covers made of thin galvanized steel. With a hole in the middle. Anyone know what they are for?

The harrow has only scrap value, there are loads of these around and nobody wants them because they are small and bent and broken and the guys that still use them anyways already have one.

I took the tines off first, those are good spring steel. The frame isn't really worth keeping even if I had a cat 2 tractor.

Looks like we've accumulated another trailer load of metals to cash in at the scrap dealer.

  30. Almost ready for testing. The critical part was a method of quickly attaching and removing the hitch.

I've changed from my original idea with the hooks a bit and made two welded bolt adapters that remain on the frame. The rod at the top gets seated in the grass collector bag arms, then is swung down for the tangs on the frame to meet the bolt adapters and secured with two wingnuts.

It's quite sturdy, I've stood on it to test 😁

As usual, all made from scrap metal found around the farm.

  35. Cable recycling. Sorted into aluminium cable scrap, copper cable scrap and a few to keep.

Also a short length of something super rare: lead shielded cable. I remember finding that wrapped around an apple tree 😆

As soon I was done I found another pile of cables somewhere else 🤦‍♂️

  40. What were these weird shallow channels for? I've got several multi-meter lengths of them them laying around.

    Some kind of floor drain?
