I don't think it is even possible to invent anything worse for OCD symptoms than a machine you can ask for reassurance and that never gets tired of reassembling its reassurances in slightly different forms.

i'm not sure why i'm always drawn to this tree
is it because despite being dead, it still provides life for the birds who have made their home in it?
or because it is a giant stick in every sunrise photo i try to take?
I just vividly remembered the smell of the trash compactor at the Target I used to work at 15-20 years ago and I hate it
I was just thinking that faking a photo shoot of a skateboard trick - take a picture of the approach, another of the takeoff, another of the grab, and a final one of the landing, rather than speed-shoot the whole thing straight through - is what comping tracks is.
I feel like this is something that's going to come up more and more in the near future. So far the strategy for LLMs has been MOOAAARRR. That works to a point, but not forever. Sometimes it doesn't even work to a point.
I just saw "programma non grata" and I'm stealing that
I believe product development will remain fundamentally iterative. Figuring out what to build, what people want, and what actually works hasn’t suddenly become predictable. But software development was such a central part of that process, and its economics have changed so dramatically, that it’s hard to imagine the entire discipline not being turned upside down as well.

I'd say this is a non-work update, except my fun hair is a way I express the same playful spirit I work with.
It brings me ongoing joy to play with my hair color like this, and new looks always come with a moniker.

I don't know whether I'm alone in this, or whether humanity will inevitably realise how empty all these AI "works" are, how "soulless".
For the record, as far as I can tell, C64 Lemmings Reloaded is not one of these. It appears to be a labour of love, a work of many years, by very talented coders. And it defintely shows.
I remember in the mid 1990's, there was a UseNet News group known as c.o.l.a. where the largest most unhinged commons converged to advocate for Linux and freedom.
comp.os.linux.advocacy was the full name, shitposting was the policy. Back then, Microsoft was doing its best to extinguish their competition with litigation, and now with #AI
Some things never change.
I was having such a lovely morning and then the alarm had to go and ruin it.
I can’t wait another day

There’s a choice you have to make
I’m running too many agents at the same time (I'm easily distracted), and switching LLMs all around is annoying, so going to see if magpie can solve that for me
I first became aware of what a fucking asshole the FOTUS is before I graduated high school in 1982. Other people like conservative William F. Buckley who started the magazine “National Review” knew back then.

I would call this market manipulation and profiteering. If I did even a fraction of this, I’d end up in an orange jumpsuit.

I spent 10 minutes with an ai chat bot to finally get a human, and if I don't respond quickly they keep trying to drop the conversation 🙃

I added Goose and Amp to a tool that runs several coding agents. The most useful thing I learned wasn't about the protocol. It was the defaults.
Goose's default mode approves tool calls automatically. If you start it through a wrapper that doesn't set a mode, it runs commands without asking anyone. So I set the mode per process instead of relying on whatever is in the user's Goose config. Default, accept-edits and auto all use Goose's approval mode, so tool calls ask. Only the permission mode literally called bypass picks automatic approval, and none of it touches the user's own Goose configuration.
The second surprise was Goose's chat-only mode. It disables all tools, reads included. A plan mode you'd expect to still read your files doesn't, so mapping 'plan' to it means the agent can only talk.
Amp went the other way. Its streaming output has no documented way to answer an approval from outside, so approvals stay in its own terminal. Its plan and don't-ask modes reject every tool, reads included, and only bypass asks for automatic approval.
What I do with any new agent CLI now: before wiring up anything else, run it once in an empty directory and see what it does with a tool call by default. Two agents gave me two very different answers, and neither was in the first page of the docs.
Which of your agent CLIs would run a command without asking, if you started it the way you usually do? I'm building Styx, where this came from.#agents #ai #cli #tooling #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community
Your coding agent CLI may approve its own tool calls by default
I feel stupid about smart bulbs, but Mastodon helped: https://lexontech.org/mastodon-smart-bulb-advice
I assign hotkeys to the most frequently used applications in #Raycast, so I rarely use ⌘+Tab. But if I hit that hotkey on an already active app, it loses focus instead!
That's pretty annoying, but it turns out it can be changed under: Raycast Settings → Extensions → Applications → Hotkey Action → *Always Show* instead of *Toggle Visibility*
I hadn't followed what Liv Hill and Mena Young had been up to since then: They expanded the #iHunt universe through fiction (available on itch.io or Kindle, apparently) and now tackle other media - like a film. Variety says that "the project is LGBTQIA+-led" and I trust that this doesn't end with the two original creators. Lilly Wachowski as one of the producers is a nice touch.
Looking forward to this!
I just needed to get some filters for Motorboat’s water fountain and now I’m fully distracted.
