  1. Having a blast working on the drum part for my re-recording of Tell Me What She Said. The original hi-hat part was too intense to do with one shots (very similar to Hearts Barracuda), so spent a couple days searching through the grooves in Slate Drums. Found something close then had a blast editing the MIDI parts to create a drum track that’s really kicking ass.

    I'm on the rest.
Lead guitar is the Kramer into a drive into a Harmonious Monk into a Valve Jr. cranked to about 7 into an attenuator and a Fender 4x12 cab.

  3. NPD: Got the CTC Triptychon, which is an overdrive, a fuzz and a booster in one pedal, all individually switchable.

I first ran it into the Simplifier and was a little underwhelmed. But then I tried it in front of the Friedman IR-X, and that sounds so much better. There's tons of cool sounds in this thing, and the OD and boost work well with other pedals, too.

So this won't be my new all-in-one pedal for live as planned, but a sound tool for recording at home.

  4. Today is our official album release #gig, at the Fiddler's Elbow, so here's today's board.

The Simplifier had a great debut on Friday, hope it will continue to simplify tonight. I also used the Klinger Mk1 for anything high gain. Sounds great, but the switch sits fairly high, and it is a tall pedal, so there were a few miss-steps. Need to be more careful today.

I also put on the Maxon in place of the Riot, just to have something sounding slightly different than a modded Marshall.

  5. Gotta love developers sometimes. Been noticing more and more stuff in Logic failing recently, and the latest update to 12.2 continues the trend. Now it's impossible to change the track icon - right clicking doesn't bring up the option selection and even selecting "Assign Track Icon" in the context menu does nothing. How is it even possible to break something so intrinsic to the code base???

  10. Got my new blues tune “Deep Dark Blues” finished and uploaded tonight. Played my Danelectro baritone for the rhythm guitar. Bass is Fender Mustang. Harmonica is Hohner Special 20 in B flat. First song I’ve done with harp all the way through, both solo and under the vocals. Good fun. #music #recording #gearsquad #harmonica #guitar #blues #bass youtu.be/D6k6Hsvu9o8

  11. TIL: Hex keys come in two types of sizes, metric and imperial, and they are not compatible. I have lots of hex keys, and mine are all metric.

I learned this from a KingTone fuzz, which the manufacturer chose to equip with imperial hex screws, instead of Phillips screws. I think that's not the smartest choice for a pedal that needs to be opened up regularly, and that is sold to non-imperial parts of the world.

Thankfully hardware stores are still a thing in London.

  12. More attempted music!

Up on the Tight Rope - Leon Russel

Another song that figured largely in the local album rock station's playlist when teen-aged me was spending most of my time in my room, listening to it.

Anyway, walking a line between extremes - maybe it's a metaphor for middle age. it is for me.

  14. Since job 1 is wiring the new house for CAT6, starting to research #DANTE. We want streaming and recording from the living room at least, controlled from the office.

We have hardly any legacy analog gear to integrate and don't plan to get any--we do have a crapton of UAD plugins (won in a raffle) so we're looking into Apollo hardware for the DSP--but we are starting from close to scratch. Any recommends for getting spun up on modern networked audio?

  19. I bought one of those little #Korg Nu:Tekt oscilloscopes (the sort where you have to assemble it yourself) to use with the #Stylophone DF-8 filter. The filter doesn't have its own LFO, so I wanted something that could produce one to modulate the cutoff frequency. It's loads of fun! Pretty easy to put together, even for my middle-aged fingers, and the LFO range extends into audible frequencies. Combined with the Bandstop+ filter, you can get some really cool noises... #GearSquad #Synth #Analogue

  20. Picked this guy up yesterday for a super clearance price, and it will serve nicely as a "whatever I need at a given moment" addition to the rig (currently = just a "moar" button)

  21. I'm in the market for an upgrade for the Audio-Technica AT2020s I'm currently using as overheads. What would be a sensible upgrade option in the €500 price range for two mics? Aston Origins maybe?

  22. They played this song during warmup the other day for our junior team, it's an awesome tune and perfect for a bunch of young players that are living life to the fullest. And for the this is a great example of LCR mixing.

  23. New Guitar Day! First #PRS and first #baritone for me.

I spontaneously bought this when seeing it in Denmark Street today (2nd hand). It desperately needs new strings, but a few hours of earth-shaking low-B-riffing and droning in the studio confirmed that I made the right choice.

I was planning to get a baritone for a while now, and this one has most features I was looking for: semi-acoustic, P90s, light weight (3.3 kg), the only thing missing is a vibrato.

  24. Help me out here #GearSquad. I have my #MustangMicroPlus on an empty preset (the #FenderTone app just shows "studio preamp" in its chain. It's connected to my PC with USB, and I have #ASIO4ALL up with the MMP selected for both in and out. When I open #Amplitube 5, I just get a feedback loop from my PC speakers (no matter what output I have selected in the OS sound settings).

  25. I found this really nice strap for my guitar. It wasn't cheap, (just over $100USD) but it should last forever, AND it's a pretty good color match. It's leather with all brass hardware. The inside is smooth and doesn't grab my shirt like other leather straps with suede interiors do. It's a perfect buy-it-for-life option if you otherwise like the fit & feel of everyday cotton / plastic straps. #StrapLocks coming soon.

  26. Success! I was able to get a hold of a set of Medium length "Ruthenium" aka "Dark Chrome" #StrapLocks S-Locks. #Schaller quit making this color a few years ago. I looked around a few different places and even had an order canceled. I don't get why they quit making this color. A ton of guitars have this kind of hardware finish. Installation pictures coming soon.

  29. #NewPedalDay but belated. Received an #EHX Nano Q-tron over the holidays. Finally got to hooking it up to give it a spin. I like how effects which react to dynamics really make you more deliberate with your attack. What songs does #GearSquad suggest to learn with it?

  30. Saw the sale on #ToneX + #Amplitube and decided to re-visit using the #MustangMicro with #ASIO4All. Glad I did. Finally managed to figure out the #ASIO control panel to have the output going to my speakers this time around. Pretty fun dicking around with all the amps and effects! However, the reverb is really thick out of the box. Seems to vary greatly from amp to amp but I don't think some of these amps should actually have reverb on board. Maybe I need to tweak the mics.

  31. Music practice #recommendation requested: I want to walk around my house/porch, with headphones on, and practice electric #guitar or #Bass - no hardware pedals to lug around, budget of less than another guitar, will pay more for something that has at least a year warranty/decent reputation - random aliexpress options seem dicey, but I'm not gigging with it.

Trying to compare options - something like an #irig that plugs into a phone/tablet (currently working with ios, with lightning connectors)? a headphone amp like #amplug? or fender mustang micro? some sort of wireless headphone thingey like a boss #WazaAir?
What do you use for your practice?

  32. Plugged in to the front of the amp now, so I can use the #reverb (the reverb is noisy - I wonder why).

I like this pedal. My strat sounds like a #strat! Sparkly!

  33. Ayye #gearheads on #gearsquad and all my awesome #guitarists — let’s get to know each other! What’s your setup? What’s your main guitar? Amp? Pedals? What kind of strings do you use!? Acoustic or electric?! Haha whatever you wish! I just thought it’d be cool to start a conversation! I’ll stop exclaiming now and list out my stuff! 😂

I just had an acoustic, Yamaha FG-830 and man did I love that guitar. I sold it since I just bought a Strat though. I think I got jipped, but I guess I let it happen. I also had a Squier offset Telecaster which I also let go of. My main setup right now is a Squier Classic Vibe’s 50 Strat and I’m using the Fender Mustang LT25 “beginner” amp which I think is a super awesome deal. I haven’t dived into pedals and effects just yet but the Mustang comes with 30 different presets and another 20 are downloadable. You can connect it right to your MacBook and you’re on your way recording. For 160 bucks, Fender gave a great amp to people just starting out. And it’s loud and it sounds really good. Until I ,hopefully, start playing live in the future I don’t think I’d really need much more than this for at home use. But you know how that goes 😅

So, Squier CV Strat and the Fender Mustang LT25. 👌 Oh, I also use GHS Nickel Rockers for my strings. I honestly like them way more than popular brands like D’Addario and Ernie Ball. I think Stevie Ray Vaughan used the exact strings, just a custom size. Anyway, that’s me! What’s your setup!?
