Sorry I’m about to talk about cows again. But seriously, this announcement from Trump was nothing but a ploy to depress head prices on the Sept 1 sales. (We’ve talked before about how cattle sales work, I won’t bore you again, but 1st of month is a big deal.)
Why do I say it was a ploy? Because I can math. 300,000 tons of beef would mean 1.2 MILLION head of cattle would go to slaughter just for ground beef, no sirloins, no ribeye, no filet…if the whole cow was ground up, it would take that many cows.
That stock doesn’t exist anywhere on earth. What Trump said he would do, is not a thing which can be done. He’s just moving markets. By the time anyone can do the math, you’ve already lost $$$ on the steer in the feed lot.
