  1. Molly Crabapple on the Jewish Bund

'When I wrote my book about the Bund, I made sure to focus on the women. Some were barricade fighters and orators. Some shot guns, wrote theoretical treatises, and pulled their friends off of boxcars bound for Treblinka...I tried to pay attention to the humbler work of life. The women’s vigils alongside Mokotow prison. The women on the bus to Rikers. The aunties who pack the packages. The hands that keep movements alive'

  6. If you take the time to read this. You will find that Signal App, like any company, when requested by law must provide the data they may have on a phone number. From the phone number, what meta data is available. That's not much but it's not zero. If you've donate to Signal App and have a little trophy icon on your image, you might be at a higher risk of being identified. If you use your normal bank card. Both the phone number and credit card are fairly easy things to mitigate with prepaid card or virtual cards, VoIP number you don't use anywhere else, and using Signals Apps phone number privacy and user names. And don't use your full fucking name. For fucks sake people, this is your private line. This is still the gold standard but you can do a tad bit more to make it substantially more secure. There even hardened versions of The Signal App like #Molly or #LibreSignal

If you are on iOS, probably there are no solutions that I can suggest. However, in case you are an Android user, you can install
#molly (molly.im/), which is a #signal fork. Molly and official signal client can coexist on a device. You can signup for signal services with your new number on molly, leaving your original number on the official signal client.

  9. I need help from people using #Molly or #Signal on #GrapheneOS. I have no idea which part of my setup causes the issue.

    I use

    • GrapheneOS on a Pixel 9a,
    • Molly,
    • MollySocket and Ntfy for Unified Push.

When I have Molly open, messages arrive immediately. But when my phone is off, they are delayed for multiple minutes. I've definitely checked a message and seen that it was delayed for more than 30 minutes. I have the feeling that it's been longer than that, but I only started checking the timestamps recently.

    I have

    • checked that any battery optimizations are turned off. Molly and Ntfy are both allowed to run in the background as well.
    • turned off my VPN (WG Tunnel). It happens when I'm at home and the tunnel is off and it still happens when Molly and Ntfy are exempt from the VPN tunnel.
    • double checked that my WiFi and mobile data doesn't turn off when I put the phone to sleep. If there's any hidden option I'm unaware of, please let me know. It kinda feels like this might be it, but I couldn't find any options that sounded related.
    • looked for solutions online, the most promising of which just told me to clear the cache or reinstall the app. I did that yesterday and I could see it happen again within the hour.

I'm tagging Signal, even though I use Molly, because this is absolutely something I have seen with the default client as well.

Now to make things even weirder, I switched from Ntfy and Unified Push to the default Google Firebase mechanism and it is still there!!!

I'm going crazy, because Signal worked perfectly for years on my previous phone and ever since I started using GrapheneOS and this Pixel it's been causing trouble.

Any ideas? Please? Boost the hell out of it, if you can. Thank you. 🙏
