The soft humming of the airship envelopes Moira. The others are sitting in the living area and she can hear their voices and laughter. Here in the empty cabin, she remembers the evening before she had left. They had shared a last dinner together, and then, in silence they had each gone to their rooms. Joining them now, would they also remember the day she left? Lying on the narrow bunk of her cabin, she tries to relax in the gentle sway of the ship dancing on the waves of the wind, but her eyes just bounce from one empty wall to the next. The space around her is still empty, just as it was the day she left. She will unpack tomorrow, to make it feel more like her own again. Today, she is so tired after hours of travel, but sleep refuses to come. Maybe a quick biscuit and tea will help? She pulls up her backpack to get both, pulls out the tin of tea and then remembers. She forgot the bag with the biscuits she had picked up at the station on the train! Just a day ago, she could have simply gone to a shop to pick up a fresh pack. But up in the air, she would have to do without. Disappointed she lets the backpack sink onto the floor and stretches on the bed, staring at the empty walls. If she hadn't left, she would have a stash sitting under the bunk. Instinctively she feels for the old tin where she used to keep her stash before she left. And there it is, and heavy. She sits up and pulls the tin out from under the bed, and carefully pries it open. On top of a batch of ginger biscuits sits a note: "Welcome home, Moira." And each of the crew has scribbled a small note for her. She reads them each carefully, tears filing her eyes. She lifts the tin to her nose and inhales the smell of the freshly made cookies. She smiles. Who needs a shop, when you have a friends to rely on? She joins the others in the living room. Maybe she is not so tired after all.

@ndrei nice! Not sure what my first thing was, but definitely went through #Mandrake, #Mandriva, #Ubuntu, at various places of study and work too, and now #ArchLinux, with a bit of #Slax, #Alpine, #Gentoo thrown in somewhere....
Long way back started out on #NetBSD but of course that's the odd one out here :P

@gael You started early, in i386 times, Linux' first architecture. When I started in 1997 with SUSE 5.1 we had mostly Pentium and some i486, 8MB and 16MB RAM, FVWM, built KDE 1.0 first time in 1998 (?) (on SGI IRIX), installed Mandrake Linux for the first time on my first laptop mid-1999, and on my wife's PC in April 2000, got invited to work at MandrakeSoft to switch the distro to CUPS min-2000.
So you did an important step to what I am now. Thanks!

J'ai essayé pendant un temps #MandrakeLinux puis #Mandriva, mais jamais #MageiaJe ne nierai pas ma préférence tout de même pour #Ubuntu (pas seulement parce que ça a été ma première distro à 100% et sans dual-boot) ou dérivée.
Certes, elle n'est ni Française ni Européenne, mais d'une part elle a un cycle de vie que je trouve à la fois clair (2 maj majeures/an en avril et octobre) et pertinente (LTS tous les 2 ans) ; et d'autre part #Canonical propose un support professionnel à celui qui le souhaite.

Hardware für Artemis-III-Mondrakete am Cape eingetroffen. Artemis-II-Kapsel kehrt zum Kennedy Space Center zurück.
Nach erfolgreichem Testflug von Artemis II arbeiten Teams an der nächsten Artemis-Mission. Am 28. April manövrierten Techniker die Kernstufe der SLS-Rakete im VAB des KSC, um sie für Artemis III vorzubereiten. Besatzungsmodul von Artemis II traf währenddessen zur Auswertung im Kennedy Space Center ein.

#writingProgress March & most of April 2026
Things have slowed a bit. Mostly because I was spending more time chewing more on the characters, how they are developing and did some (ok, a lot) reading alongside that.
The changes are in part, because stopped starting to write after 21:00h, and try to stick more to the reading if I only get to it after that time.
Mornings are still reserved for writing, and I have picked that up more again, but due to daylight saving time, I now only have 30-45min for writing than the 90min I have in winter - that makes a difference, Also more gardening on the weekends, though I am taking my laptop, so I might also start writing in the garden. I have this romantic image in my head, and will make it happen this year.I am overall happy with the progress. It is slow but steady, and I am taking more time to mull over words and scenes with the first draft done.
In #reading
March & April so far I completed 12 books:
Most of these from the Discworld Series, as I reread the watch story line and the Moist von Lipwig books. In addition to those:
- East of Eden - John Steinbeck
- The Safekeep - Yael von der WoudenI really liked both of them. The Safekeep was a chance pickup, and I am so glad I did. It is allowed to stay in my shelf for rereading, rather than moving on. In East of Eden the message of choosing who you are resonated very much with me, and I also got the German translation for my Grandmother, for whom I am always on the hunt for books we might both enjoy. Pachinko was the last one she really enjoyed.

Installed a new plugin in Obsidian, to keep track of my #fiction #writing
I'm quite happy with the regularity with which I am able to work on my WIP despite a day job & other hobbies. My sports regiment is currently suffering the most in favour of this, and that needs to be solved. Also, since I am now editing the first draft, I am expecting the per day word counts to go down quite drastically. I am essentially rewriting every word of the first draft, but taking more care in crafting the scenes, and adding more worldbuilding and atmospheric fluff - most of which is very scarce in the first draft. I am enjoying this.
I've also gotten back to more early morning writing - which requires me to get to bed in time.In reading:
- The Chained Knight by @lilithsaintcrow - this was recommended as a standalone read, which I don't think it is. Probably better to read the Moonknight first, otherwise its just strange, since most characters obviously know each other - but as a reader one remains just as confused as the protagonist throughout, even more so in some cases. The thing that really annoyed me about the book though, was that the protagonist had essentially no agency in this book. Just existing did the trick. Not sure if that was intentional. This alongside the overall confusing story made it a rather chewy book.- The graveyard shift by M.L.Rio - this was a very enjoyable read. A post graduation dark academia mystery. Short, great characters, many feels for the bleak side of academic careers and shattered dreams. Good stuff.
- Picked up the diaries by Anne Lister again "I know my own heart" - which vibes nicely with the current WIP, which has a prominent lesbian couple. Though my world does not have this awkwardness and discrimination around queer relationships, because nobody needs more of that.

My #introduction to #Linux.
I was blown away by the #Battlezone clone #bz on cool #SiliconGraphics machines (with HUGE monitors) at university. That was my first indication that there was a world out there beyond #DOS and #Windows.
One day, I bought #Caldera #OpenLinux 2.2 from #FutureShop. And I could play #BZFlag! It was amazing - but something didn't work. Maybe sound? I forget.
Years later, I tried #Mandrake 9.0. I used it solidly until I discovered #Ubuntu. The rest is history.
