It's been around a long time. The most active server is "PlanetMoFo" (though Lou Man's maps are consistently awesome). Join MoFo and say "Who wants to play on $foomap?" and everyone will migrate for a few hours.
MoFo is the motherfucking map. You learn to play there by getting completely murdered, repeatedly.
I think I slaughtered your kids a few times. My bad.

If there's players on a LouMan's map I'll definitely be there, otherwise it's Planet MoFo.
Sadly, there is a library problem with (K)Ubuntu 22.04 and it just crashes and I haven't installed from source yet. I was being lazy and waiting for it to get fixed in 24.04.
Tons of fun. And I like being able to jump in on a game for a little while and not some slogged campaign where everyone has to organize or whatnot.

It is time for our next open-source-only gaming event! It will take place Saturday September 23rd, starting at 12:00UTC.
We have two newcomers this time, #HyperSomnia and #FTEQW with #LibreQuake.
We will also have a #SuperTuxKart tournament with a prize!
Finally, we will also play #bzflag and #lix, so that will be a lot of fun.

My #introduction to #Linux.
I was blown away by the #Battlezone clone #bz on cool #SiliconGraphics machines (with HUGE monitors) at university. That was my first indication that there was a world out there beyond #DOS and #Windows.
One day, I bought #Caldera #OpenLinux 2.2 from #FutureShop. And I could play #BZFlag! It was amazing - but something didn't work. Maybe sound? I forget.
Years later, I tried #Mandrake 9.0. I used it solidly until I discovered #Ubuntu. The rest is history.
