I just finished another handmade sketchbook! A simpler one-signature one this time, with a #FabricPaper cover & collaged tea tag charms at the center stitching. I especially love the message, "May your head and heart speak with one voice." Making comics makes this possible for me, and I'm gonna fill this sketchbook with comics! This is a #comic I made for a fantastic #SAW class with Fionn McCabe back in February. I set a timer & gave myself 3-5 minutes per panel, inked on Post-it notes. I added color later digitally. It's so liberating to work on sticky notes! So much easier to just draw & not be all precious about it.

Part of being an #abuse #survivor is respecting my own boundaries and not pushing myself into a place I don't want to be. So instead, I started sketching where I am right now. Part of #memoir is being in conversation with younger versions of myself - which is also part of #InternalFamilySystems therapy (#IFS). This page is both.

The Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW) has worked with young Iranian comics creators to put together a book of comics called _Young in Iran_. This project is about giving young artists living under an authoritarian regime a voice. The kickstarter campaign had successfully raised double their goal, but was recently canceled because, well, Iran. So they're restarting their fundraising efforts, this time from the SAW website. Please support this amazing project by preordering a copy so these young Iranian artists can be heard!

I'm currently loving getting to know my #DukeRubyFude #FountainPen for drawing & lettering, usually on #Canson Bristol paper, but sometimes just on #Hammermill color copy paper. I also splurged on a set of #Pilot #ParallelPens because I'm hoping to give modifying the nibs a try. I'm a little scared, but it should be fun!

Given how dire things are in the world right now, I hesitate to share this. But this is where I'm at, and what's the point of sharing at all if we're not being genuine?I might redo this comic and/or add color...or I might just leave it as-is. We'll see. I want to sit with it for a bit.
I have a lot of anger at my dad for a lot of things, but mostly not his suicide. Even at 11, I knew what it was like to feel suicidal, and I understood what it was like for life to feel unbearable. He was a large part of the reason *why* I often felt that way, and so it was complicated. Life was easier once he was gone. Suicide was NOT the way to solve that problem. But life got a little easier, at least for me, and that's just a fact. But his death was devastating all the same. I'm not sure anyone ever fully recovers from losing someone to suicide. I sure haven't.
I can't help but notice here though how when I drew this I wondered if the music might possibly stay his hand, when looking at our pictures did not. That says a lot, I think.
There's so much to say about my dad, my family, my past, all of it - and I'm working on it. But this comic is mostly just full of love.
I'm grateful that at least right now, today, this week, I'm in a better place. I'm grateful for all the times that's true. And I'm glad he's no longer suffering.Dad, despite all of it, I love you.

I think in order to feel #DisabilityPride, a person needs to have a workable answer to this question: What does it mean to believe in oneself _and_ accept one's own limitations?
How do YOU relate to the things you're bad at but have to do anyway? Or the things you feel judged for not being able to do at all?
