The only problem I faced was the "rivets" (i don't know what is their real name), I didn't had the proper tool to secure them, so they are a little bit deformed. Klej z mąki pszennej to w sumie niesamowity wynalazek. Cienki karton z mrożonej pizzy przerobił w gruby karton, którego teraz użyję do oprawienia książki. Wystarczyło nałożyć warstwę tego kleju na zadrukowaną stronę , skleić z drugim kwadratem zadrukowaną stroną i położyć pod czymś ciężkim. Wyszedł elegancki szary karton. Zaoszczędziłem zawrotne 1.50zł za tyle ile mi wyszło, ale satysfakcja z dokonania tak zupełnego recyklingu i uniknięcia wykonania transakcji rynkowej jest absolutnie bezcenna. Z resztą cena 0zł jest nieskończenie wiele razy niższa więc procentowo to lepszy zarobek niż na Bitcoinie od 2009. Poza tym zrobienie czegoś dosłownie ze śmiecia dodaje mi kilka punktów punka.

And here are the finished books! They're not perfect, but I'm getting a lot of practice. These are made out of junk mail that I've cut up and collated, and the covers are from food packaging. I'm thinking of putting these up in my Ko-fi store eventually, though it will probably be a while before I get store-worthy photos worked up.

Did a bunch of #bookbinding yesterday, and in order to make things smoother, I made myself a punching trough out of cardboard. It was way easy than I thought it would be, and it makes punching the holes in my signatures so much easier!

I honestly saw a youtube video from Nerdforge and thought 'I need to do this', so I got a toolset for like 50 Euro, watched some more videos, googled some stuff and then made my first bracelet :) Since then it only got worse and I now have a small cabinet full of stuff.

I am currently binding a fanfiction for a friend that has more then 1,5 million words, so it will be multiple books. And my friend decided on mourning paper (it has fully black edges) and it was soooo funny to order 11kg of mourning paper from my favorite paper store.

A lovely video from the V&A showing some of the miniature books they have in their collection, from well-loved children's books, tunnel books, to tiny, tiny books that can't be read without a magnifying glass, which brings up the interesting question, can a book be a book if it can't be read?

I'm playing with my knob.

A quick design in #FreeCAD while I run a test print on a new (to me) printer. These will be for the quick finishing press I started yesterday. The plan is to insert a M601 pause in the gcode and hope that I can just drop the nut in before printing the little capture corners.

Finally! A new #bookmaking project! We discovered traveller’s notebooks this year. Love the concept but wanted to have one that was #vegan AND not made of plastic. I also wanted to make my own inserts. These are prototypes to see if the concept could work. I am so proud of these! I learned a great deal and am planning on making a larger one for A5 notebooks.

Last week I finished my biggest #bookbinding project a daily #planner composed by 95 sheets, 380 pages, and 12 signatures. The planner was designed using #scribus, and an extension I wrote in #python, to generate the whole planner starting from a single page template. Recently a friend asked me for a custom made #notebook. Our first #commission
We decided format, number of pages, cover. For the cover we used a page from a #zelda calendar.
Although few minor imperfections, I think the result is gorgeous.
The cool part is the master sword, right on the spine.

Hey hey #BookBinding folks, when you have a big roll of paper, do you wait until a piece you tore off has "rested" before you try to figure out the grain direction?

I opened a roll of Arches today and the curl was so stiff, I couldn't figure out the grain. Put some in a press and will check again tomorrow (usually it's so easy to tell).

For #MakersHour today, hello, I’m Hollie and here’s what I’m working on…

1) A small watercolor swatching book for relaxation, decided not to put a cover on it and just painted squares instead.
2) A new text block clamped together, still unsewn
3) A finished text block in French stitch, which is to be a collection of sketches made while I have regular Sunday brunch with a friend - still uncovered

For my first-ever #MakersHour post, here’s the first hand bound book I ever made, in 1999. I love it so much. It’s filled with photos and journal entries. I haven’t made another book exactly like this one since, but learned Coptic stitch a few years ago and just finished a class on French stitch. I do hope to make some others like this one (I think a cork cover could be beautiful), I just need to relearn the stitching technique.

Fellow bookmaking f(r)iends: Thirty seconds into this video, she has a great visual of why folding with the grain is so much better than folding against the grain, and I love it when something kinda makes sense in class, but then a great visual makes it BLOOM into total, complete, obvious sense that I will carry with me always.

Was picking up my MIL from the airport and saw these maps of #Chicago in seven different languages. I instantly thought “these would be great for #bookmaking projects!”

I had to take a break from #bookbinding because of having a newborn at home. I also have been looking for some new paper for the inside but haven’t found some I like. But I am hoping to get started again in 2025!
