I just finished another handmade sketchbook! A simpler one-signature one this time, with a #FabricPaper cover & collaged tea tag charms at the center stitching. I especially love the message, "May your head and heart speak with one voice." Making comics makes this possible for me, and I'm gonna fill this sketchbook with comics! Fellow bookmaking f(r)iends: Thirty seconds into this video, she has a great visual of why folding with the grain is so much better than folding against the grain, and I love it when something kinda makes sense in class, but then a great visual makes it BLOOM into total, complete, obvious sense that I will carry with me always.

I made a manuscript book. From concept to finish this took 6 weeks in Judy Detrick's Manuscript Book class. I have calligraphed two poems by early 20th century #sanfrancisco poets and illustrated some famous San Francisco sites. The illuminations are inspired by medical book of hours and feature some of my favorite businesses in San Francisco and flowers often found in gardens here.

So I was watching these courses on bookmaking and I really fell in love with these art forms (I’ll have to update my profile soon if this continues :meowybara: )

This one is a slinky book (not a flag book) I made for my husband’s birthday (it’s a little wonky because I started a day before his bday and was really rushing it) :lies_down:

A lot of fun, 10/10 would recommend.

I learned this from the awesome e-bond on Creativebug.

wanted to make something that was fairly abstract throughout and able to be adapted to a zine format, with lots of surface texture and depth that form a unified art-object rather than individual artworks contained in a book format. the contrast allowed for a strong reproduction in zine form.
