So glad I never got into this stupid hobby.

I was into modding my tablet and phone with CyanogenMod 10 years ago as a mere 14 year old, lol. CWM was losing popularity and TWRP was becoming popular. Magisk was not yet a thing back then

It was all fun until the CMod team chose the other path on that "fork in the road." I wonder where the cyanogen people are now...

If this proposed rule from the Dept of Homeland Security goes into effect, no one will want to visit the United States. I wouldn't blame them.
I have shared this info on LinkedIn and tagged my state's tourism organization. Customs and Border Protection is not making it easy to leave public comments on this proposed policy to require a trove of personal data on everyone entering the United States. You have to email a comment by February 9, 2026.

  3. Absolutely loved @cyberlyra talk on "Building A Social Movement Toward Alternatives". Addressed so many great ways to help "free" your family from being "captured" and slowly introducing folks to the #fediverse or #foss one thing at a time. You don't have to move the whole world at once.

  4. Shoutout to @cyberlyra who from what i understand is the brains behind this amazing website: the Opt Out Project: a step by step guide to de-google your life and free yourself from online tyranny by socials and big tech.

What i loved about this website is that it's written for people who have no real knowledge of technology especially the more practical, technical aspects of it. It is easy to follow, and carefully planned to make a huge daunting task feel easier and actually possible. I can't believe that in a few days I will soon be completely google free. Unfortunately, i can't completely stop using META as i have no choice, but i know what i will be using it for: absolutely the bare minimum. And that's another reason why this website is amazing. It does not take an absolutist, puritan approach. It recognises to what horrifying extent these apps have intruded into our lives, and takes realistic action about it. The point is to actually do something about it.

This website does much more than just unplugging you from big tech. It educated me and taught me to take responsibility online. The bi product of this is an incredible feeling of freedom, empowerment and liberation. I recommend you have a look at this today #theoptoutproject #dataprivacyday

  9. #CSCW2023 come join @cyberlyra, me, and a wonderful cast of conversation partners to discuss Divesting from Big Tech

11:00am – 12:30pm on Tuesday in the wonderfully-named "Mirage Room"

"This panel brings together people working on questions of social computing and distributed collaboration outside of Big Tech companies. Panelists will consider how CSCW research can and should consider alternative sources of support and sites of influence"

  11. Thanks for your work on this @cyberlyra.

    (for anyone who missed it;
    ttps://www.optoutproject.net/the-cyber-cleanse-take-back-your-digital-footprint/ is the linj)

Also to @jackiemak22 for the boost. This will be of interest to a bunch of folks wanting to promote fire exits from corporate DataFarms, including @mediarevolution, Rebel Tech Alliance (@patrickleavy), and @wedistribute. I was going to tag the Tech Reclaimers too, but I see they've already boosted this : )

  12. Today's #cybercleanse #optout #toxictech challenge by @cyberlyra is a tough one. About 5 years ago, I aggressively #Degoogled after being asked how I liked the restaurant. I just came back ... I tried 'e' and 'Lineage', and own a #linux #PinePhone but sadly, some banking apps require genuine #Android. Thus: For #Bike tours and #detox I use my #Nokia; a #filofax #calendar, and a mechanical #seiko watch. Now try to put an appointment in my calendar or to reach me by #WhatsApp 😉.

  13. Found the rss reader in @Vivaldi to use during @cyberlyra's opt out #cybercleanse, and it checks my boxes of free, easy to use, #noai
    Hurrah!

  14. From discussion during the end of day panel @cyberlyra pointed out that organizational design is the underlying, un-acknowledged piece that we all have to work on and learn about.

I enthusiastically agree! My label for the design we are learning is Networked Orgs bmannconsulting.com/notes/netw

Links in there to more writing including Simon Wardley’s work.

Today's issue is about setting up an alternative infrastructure for your contacts and calendars, to take back power from #BigTech. It's just so brilliant!

THANK YOU Janet for empowering us all 🙏
