  1. @jwallen @open-source-ZDNet thank you so much for the review of #StratOS! Never did I (or we, the @StratOS team) expect a review from a major outlet such as ZDNet. Words aren't enough to express my most sincere gratitude.

    I'm the maintainer of the
#Hyprland spin, and I'm REALLY happy you like it. And we've got more spins coming up - #SwayFX, #Cosmic, #MangoWC etc.

I'm also working on a sister project called
#CosmOS, which tries to replicate this on #NixOS. It's still a work-in-progress, though, but one fine day it'll be on par with the other spins.

CCing other members of the team (those who I do know are on the fediverse)
    @magitian and @Slipstream8125.

Once again, thank you so much for the (what is in my humble opinion very positive) review, and stay tuned. I
hope know your article is going to draw attention to the distro, so we'll have to ramp up the maintenance 💪🏻.

    STAY TUNED FOLKS!!

  7. #ClimateChange, #NuclearWinter, and #StratosphericAerosolInjection are all human-made interventions in the climate system. They share the potential to be massively disruptive to the habitability of this planet. Usually, we see them as separate catastrophes, but this does not have to be the case. It could easily happen that we face two of them at the same time, or even all three if we get really unlucky. In my newest post, I explain all three of them and what interactions we might face if we end up in the unfortunate timeline where we have to face several of them at the same time.

  8. Both #stratosphere balloons launched today in Bochum, Germany, could be recovered quickly (one from a tree, the other from a field) and the storage cards are in good shape, with 50 GBytes of data including e.g. hi-res video of the explosion of one of the balloons. Stay tuned ...

  9. Some impressions from the double #stratosphere balloon launch in Bochum, Germany, today - more pictures in the album facebook.com/media/set/?vanity

  10. The trajectories of two #stratosphere balloons launched within 1/2 hour from a school in Bochum, Germany (lower left), today: at first they took quite similar paths, including a sharp turn, then they decided to make mosre turns but at different times. Both are on the ground now, no word yet from the recovery teams.

  15. @itsfoss not sure if we're allowed to comment on this - but building the distribution is more fun than we'd like to admit (CC @zstg @magitian @Slipstream8125).

It's involved, but the learning experience is equal parts fun and challenging (in a good way).

Pros: the learning experience and TOTAL customization ability
Cons: can get cumbersome to maintain multiple ISO trees ( @zstg's NixOS edition could solve this rather conveniently)

  16. New ISOs are out!

@zstg has set up a GitHub Action to build and release new ISOs on a Git push (thanks to @archlinux's ).

The first automated ISO, 2024.05.01, has been released.
Feel *free* to test and review it! We hope (one day) Linux "celebs" like DT, @thelinuxexperiment_channel and @BrodieOnLinux would review this distro.
We'd love a review from sites like @itsfoss as well. Boost this post for futher reach!

  17. Work on #StratOS continues. Small things such as full GitHub Org migration, minor package maintenance work, et. al need to be finished.

Oh, and I'm working on an
    #emacs literate config for #stratos. Sorry @Slipstream8125 😉

I'll release a new ISO pretty soon. Stay tuned!

  18. On September 15, 2024 Space Perspective, the balloon firm planning to offer leisure #stratospheric balloon flights in the future, performed an uncrewed test flight of its #Neptune capsule.

The balloon was launched onboard the firm's ship #Voyager steaming 80 miles W of #Bradenton shore in the Gulf of Mexico.

The flight took a little more than six hours and the #capsule splashed down in the Gulf waters 175 miles WSW of departure point.
