The BALMAN mission was successfully performed today. At 4:00 UTC, the balloon was launched from the observation point "Colibri" near the Ariane 6 launch pad of the Centre Spatial Guyanaise in Kourou.
After reaching an altitude of 17.8 km the mission was terminated and the balloon impacted in the Atlantic Ocean, 42 km NE of Kourou.
The total flight time was 3 hours.

Mission HBAL676 launched on March 28 from the firm's winter Lodge in Santa Fe County, is still floating 60 kft above the Pacific Ocean.

HBAL684 made a guest apparition over the LA area yesterday. Today this balloon marked for the second time in a month a new endurance record for #Aerostar #Thunderhead balloons completing 156 days aloft since she was launched from #Indiantown (FL) on April 22.
However, the top current record for the company is held by HBAL676 launched from Santa Fe County (NM) on March 28. It has been 181 days in flight.
Both balloons are in flight off the Californian coast.

On September 15, 2024 Space Perspective, the balloon firm planning to offer leisure #stratospheric balloon flights in the future, performed an uncrewed test flight of its #Neptune capsule.
The balloon was launched onboard the firm's ship #Voyager steaming 80 miles W of #Bradenton shore in the Gulf of Mexico.
The flight took a little more than six hours and the #capsule splashed down in the Gulf waters 175 miles WSW of departure point.

On May 4th 1961, the Stratolab V balloon flight ended in tragedy. Piloted by Cdr Malcolm Ross and Lt. Victor Prather, the mission departed from the deck of the USS Antietam in the Gulf of Mexico. The balloon attained a world-record altitude of 113,739 feet, which still remains.
During recovery Prather fell from the sling of the rescue helicopter, his pressure suit with face plate open filled with water, and he drowned before he could be reached.
