With Allison, I presented at FOSDEM how we can combine UKI, composefs and containers to build a fully signed boot chain. The slides and the recording are now available: https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5191--signed-sealed-and-delivered-with-ukis-and-composefs/
This is how we are planning to bring boot chain integrity to Bootable Containers.
This is a follow up on the initial work that we presented last year at @allsystemsgo: https://cfp.all-systems-go.io/all-systems-go-2024/talk/HVEZQQ/

Súper útil tener fedora coreos + podman quadlet para correr todos los servicios de mi cluster sin a penas mantenimiento. La inmutabilidad y la automatización innata funciona increíble.

PSA on Fedora CoreOS cloud uploads that will be getting pruned. These are for uploads that are older than two years.
If you're using one of these versions, please consider updating!

Bootable Containers are the future of Fedora Atomic Desktops and we presented that at @allsystemsgo.
Introduction by @cgwalters and Ben: https://media.ccc.de/v/all-systems-go-2024-266-bootc-generating-an-ecosystem-around-bootable-oci-containers
Then take a look at how we could use sysext's to improve the local layering story with @tormath1: https://media.ccc.de/v/all-systems-go-2024-313-waiter-an-os-please-with-some-sysext-sprinkled-on-top
And then finally dive into Trusted Boot with UKI and composefs with @jbtrystram: https://media.ccc.de/v/all-systems-go-2024-309-the-road-to-a-trusted-and-measured-boot-chain-in-bootable-containers

BTW if you use #Fedora and save your git paswords in the #GNOME keyring (via #libsecret), there was a big change that likely broke your setup:

If you use #dnsmasq on @fedora or @centos Stream - be aware that there are recently disclosed CVEs - https://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/471747
@SUSE at least rates one of them a 9.2 on the CVSS 4.0 scale
https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-2291.html
Fedora updates for stable releases are about to hit testing: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?search=dnsmasq-2.92rel2
and if you have the #CentOSHyperscale repo enabled you can `sudo dnf install centos-release-hyperscale-testing && sudo dnf update 'dnsmasq*'`
Please give feedback for the Fedora builds and for the Hyperscale ones if you give them a spin!
https://gitlab.com/CentOS/Hyperscale/rpms/dnsmasq/-/work_items/1
As of the time of posting there is no advisory from #RedHat yet

@zak So. I’m at the Red Hat Summit this week and there is discussion about something you might be interested in.
bootc (the main tool for RHEL Image Mode) allows you to basically create your own immutable OS image. It’s sort of like… rolling your own distro but using tools similar to creating docker container images rather than compiling from scratch.
The intent is of course virtualization - but you can deploy them on bare metal.
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/bootc/bare-metal/
It may be a heavier lift than you want to mess with - but it’s pretty interesting nonetheless.

Thanks to @adamw, who dared to suggest we try it, we now have a small patch for #virtualenv in #Fedora to enable creation of #Python 3.6 virtual environments.
Hence, you can use #tox to test your code on Python 3.6 to 3.15, without the need for nasty hacks -- https://github.com/tox-dev/tox/issues/3656
Supporting testing on 3.6 is important to us, as many developers targeting #RHEL 8 still need to support it. (Python 3.6 is the new Python 2.6.)
Anyway, test it out:
