  1. I'm looking to start a #business designing and installing #database s for very small businesses. Not full #sql servers, but something like MS Access (local files). Unfortunately, there are no good #foss alternatives for it. #LibreBase leaves a lot to be desired, and #Kexi hasn't updated for some time now. That leaves the online #NocoDB as the best option, but I rather not deal with online stuff because internet is not reliable in my area. Plus that tends to fall into #enshittification over time.

  2. Nur vielleicht... sollten oder werden wir regionale #openGLAMlabor*e hierzulande als überregionale Linkbeziehungen denken 🌐 und dann naheliegend als internationale #OpenGLAMlab Kooperationen z.B. in Europa,

  9. CW: Ontario Politics

Dang it. I'm not a member of any party, but Nate Erskine-Smith would have been an *amazing* step forward for the Ontario Liberlals. Instead they'll be conservative-lite under Crombie. I guess the Greens are getting even more of my money and attention.

  10. One of Canada's largest medical diagnostics lab providers has reached a proposed class action settlement of C$4.9 million for the hack that it suffered back in 2019. In 2019, cybercriminals broke into LifeLabs' network & stole personal data, affecting up to 15 million Canadians.

In its proposed class action settlement, the company stated that:

Any Canadian resident who was a LifeLabs customer on or before Dec. 17, 2019 – the day the company announced it had been the target of a data breach – and whose personal information, including lab results, was accessed could receive a cash payment as part of the proposed settlement.
Each claimant in the proposed settlement can receive between $50-150 depending on their claim.

It is important to note that the proposed settlement has not yet been approved by the courts, but affected individuals have "the option of participating in the settlement, staying in the class action and objecting to the settlement, or opting out."

  11. @enkerli the almost compete erosion of value in the term "open source" (to mean 'weak open source licenses but, unlike its original meaning, *not* including #Copyleft or '#libre' licenses) thanks to bad corporate actors has forced the #FreeSoftware community to reinforce its long-time use of the term #libre to refer to share-alike #open licensing. #LibreWashing is an emerging insidious problem.

  22. A Tiny FABulous FPGA on Tiny Tapeout? It's more likely than you think!

Yesterday the TTIHP26a shuttle (app.tinytapeout.com/shuttles/t) from has closed. In it, hundreds of incredible projects.
You can view the full shuttle and its designs here: app.tinytapeout.com/projects/3

I had the opportunity to submit an FPGA, which I created using my FABulous LibreLane plugin. For this fabric, I developed a "tiny" tile library that better fits the constraints of Tiny Tapeout.

  28. I've seen arewedecentralizedyet.online on HN today, and it's ötter bs, makes me angry.
    Why?
    - website doesn't work without js. but it totally could.
    - we don't need a website for every chart grafic data that could be just posted as regular post
    - it got hundreds of comments on HN, while HN still not allowing guest comments without registration, neither via ActivityPub

Regarding the biased representation of the website itself. I'm not a fan of BS (or bitch@). Somehow only 2 projects showcased, completely ignoring other real decentralized alternatives like ZeroNet, AutonomiDweb, @librecast, nostr, Freenet \ Hyphanet, Scuttlebot, Retroshare, Etherium, blockchain-based projects, #LBRY , dApps, etc
^That's main complain of my post.

    Quality != Quantity

I do prefer using Fediverse+ActivityPub over BS. However, what irratates me is data representation of belief that many servers\instances on many domains on many clients are good actors and sign of decentralization. It might be good under perfect weather conditions, but it is not protected against Sybill attack, 51% attack, bots, sockpuppetry etc ...

If Jack\BS spawn hundreds of servers under hundred domains with LLMs larping as humans, to look more "decentralized" on arewedecentralizedyet.online - you don't have software or algorythmic protection from that.
Applications mentioned above could offer an such protection, but they lacks of modern developers & resources.

turns out that's a site of Rob Ricci, a research professor (I wonder if CS?) who built cloud infrastructre (so he should be aware of how easy is to spin hundreds of vm's with 1 click)

@happyborg I do believe that network protocol projects, such as AutonomiDweb, should be in hands of Non-Profits.
ActivityPub specification, standartisation is in hands of non profit w3c.
I've thought Mastodon Gmbh is a commercial company from Germany, but internet says it's 503 Non profit in US. I won't mind if private company does fair business with FLOSS.
But BS is full for profit, so they have incentive to manipulate market\network. (so are Threads)
