  1. We've managed to #escape the #house and are #aboard our #boat Singing the Blues again.

No idea when we'll be back aboard again. The buyers of our house visited yesterday saying their buyer is hoping to move on 23 July - so there's lots to do, starting with #packing an over big house with too much not offered to #Freegle and too much to pack.

  5. Having taken this morning's #BBC #WeatherWatcher photo, I discover the one I took yesterday was an "Editor's Pick".

I've checked all the #LookEast broadcasts for yesterday and it wasn't used. Could it have been used on a national broadcast that I missed?

I remember the #floods in #Evesham in the early 2000s when things like that happened.

There are #marinas on the #GreatOuse that have #floodpoles permanently in position so boats don't get work their way #ashore like that in flood conditions.

My own boat is a Hampton Safari, something a little like yours, and I'm working on a Safari history site. Here's a typical marina image from the site.

  15. This #electricity #meter doesn't exist. The #UKPowerNetworks database record that it was removed from the premises in 2018, presumably when a tenant stopped paying.

It was a #mystery why, when we bought the cottage, #ScottishPower could not find a record of it. Now we know. We guess that every occupier of the cottage since 2018 has had free electricity.

It didn't help that Scottish Power has the address of the cottage ending in 4AP, when it should end 3AQ.

Back in the 80s all our (UK) #government run #water #companies were #privatised, thanks to right wing government dogma. The government then set up a regulator whose function was primarily to keep prices low. Of course, that didn't stop the companies paying out enormous dividends, but it did stop any investment to update the infrastructure,

The result is that, now there is some recognition that #climatechange is real, we have near bankrupt companies and #infrastructure not fit for purpose. It's not that we need the existing infrastructure repaired we need more #reservoirs and #pipelines to shift it where it's needed.

I wish there was someone who could tell me I have this wrong?

  24. We're back at the cottage in #PrestonBrook and, last night, took a walk down the #towpath of the #Bridgewater #Canal to the north portal of the #tunnel.

In almost the middle of nowhere it was a surprise to find a #bookexchange facility. I really wish I'd taken more notice of it, like how far it is from the tunnel mouth and whether it can be seen from a passing #boat. Not that I can imagine any passing boat would rush to moor and examine the bookcase's contents.

  28. This afternoon I began trimming the #willow beside our #house. To launch the #dinghy to get the from-the-boat view I had to trim an #oak. I have a fair few trimmings to get rid of, which have been dumped on a nearby causeway I created on neighbouring land a few years ago that needs building up a bit after a very wet 2024. I still have to finish stripping the oak branches so they can be added to the #causeway too. Hopefully, I'll finish clearing the trimmings tomorrow when the main paths are due for another #mowing. Does this count as #composting the #trimmings.

If all this seems a little mad it's because I may not have to do it for much longer. We agreed the sale of the house a few weeks ago. That's the main reason I've been quiet. Too busy #househunting.

  29. One thing that happened while I've not been tooting is that we've agreed the sale of our house, so it's time for a clear out.
I no longer use either of these #amps, a #Fender Stage 185 and an #Ashdown Electric Blue 180 #bass amp
They're advertised on #Gumtree. You'll have to collect from #NorfolkUK.
