Excellent plan! I’m currently involved in helping to start up a repair cafe in our town and intend including a Linux repair cafe as part of the deal.

We need demonstrator laptops so that people can see and try Linux so they can understand what they could be getting done to their old kit.

I’ve already picked up one 12yo Acer laptop earlier in the week and picking up two similarly aged Toshibas later today. Got these via #Freegle

I use #Freegle quite a lot to get rid of stuff as we have very little storage space. Generally this works well, but there is a reasonably high percentage of folks who ask but never actually collect. However, these people never just forget, they always have some life changing event that meant they were both unable to collect and unable to tell me.

Clearly agreeing to collect items from Freegle is highly dangerous and I can no longer recommend it, for your own safety.

Maybe I should try #Freecycle instead?

We've managed to #escape the #house and are #aboard our #boat Singing the Blues again.

No idea when we'll be back aboard again. The buyers of our house visited yesterday saying their buyer is hoping to move on 23 July - so there's lots to do, starting with #packing an over big house with too much not offered to #Freegle and too much to pack.

#Oxford #freegle never ceases to amaze me. Somebody was looking for an electric typewriter and as I haven't used mine in the last 30 years (although one of the children used it for a school project in the 00s) I offered it, and it has now left the premises.

A guy on #Freegle asked if anyone had any spare bike tyres so I said I had loads and he came around yesterday. He's building his daughter some stilts and needed an old tyre for the feet of the stilts. I offered him a selection and he took an old #Schwalbe #MarathonPlus (a.k.a. bombproof). He gifted me a large bottle of cerveza in return. Thank you very much!

I found an old #Casio fx-83ES when clearing out my home office (I think from my uni days) & figure I may as well #Freecycle or #Freegle it since it still works.

Absolute weapons-grade stupidity from a #freecycle / #freegle user today.
They arranged to pick up something, I sent them my address and postcode.
Got a call from them "I'm near a hill. Where is your house?"
"Errr… Nowhere near a hill. Do you have a map?"
"No. I usually know where I'm going."

WTF?

They couldn't work Google Maps ("it's just showing me shops!") and didn't know the name of the street they were on.

I ended up sending them an OSM link and - somehow - they made it 30 minutes later!

#today has been a busy day, productive on the whole, but here we are at 5pm and I've hardly glanced at what's come in here.

Highlight of the day is getting an old water tank on #freegle that'll be put to service on the #allotment

Is one of your New Year resolutions is to #declutter ? Last year I found a great way to give stuff away for #reuse, so it doesn’t end up as landfill. Freegle lets you to advertise stuff you are giving away , so it goes to someone who can use it. It’s totally free, funded by donations and run by volunteers. You can ask for stuff too … good way to keep costs down.
